"Isn't it fun - being bad?"

| | | Austin, Dallas and Houston all have active groups that get together regularly, usually at a bar. My suggestion would be to get your dad to look at this website, meet up with some folks on his own, get to know them and maybe then you guys can do some low risk explores. I suggest you only do permitted explores until you're older. Probably not what you want to hear, but "child endangerment" charges on top of trespassing will not bode well for you or your old man. I'm glad to hear that the next generation is coming up and meeting with others that have been doing this for a while is probably the best instruction you can get in this hobby. In the meantime, take advantage of your youth and "bullet proof" attitude and go do some exploring with your friends. Read the Rookie Forum here for good tips on do's and dont's, safety etc, and grab a copy Access All Areas by Ninjalicious (its the Urbex bible). Unfortunately your age is probably going to be a huge turnoff to a lot of folks, but dont let that discourage you. There's plenty of places you and your dad can explore together, just remember to be safe, and above all respect the locations you are in. We take it very seriously. Good luck and happy exploring.

| | | The advice Peptic Ulcer gave above is about as good as it gets. I will say that I started taking my son exploring when he was about 6. He's 18 now. As a father, it may or may not have been the wisest thing I could do, but I did, and he's learned so much from it. He now knows how to be safe when he does go into places, and he has a real sense of enjoyment for what we do and a respect for the locations. That being said, child endangerment charges would NOT be a good thing for your dad, but there are plenty of places that you guys can explore all over this great state. I will say that if you and your dad are ever in my area, there are a few places here that my son and I would be glad to explore with you and your dad. They are relatively low risk as far as criminal charges go, but plenty exciting for the thrill of exploring. I wouldn't drive from Austin just to explore in East Texas, but if you guys are ever out my way, give me a shout. I'm sure there are groups or individuals closer to you that might know of some locations nearer to you, and I will say this, NEVER, EVER, under any circumstances, go exploring with any one of any age, without your dad going with you. Make that your NUMBER ONE RULE. Rule # 2, have fun and be safe.
