These photos are from September 2015, the mansion was under renovation during my visit.

Built in 1926 as a West End retreat for the family of George Sealy Jr. Later, Maco Stewart, founder of Stewart Title Co., bought the 8,200-square-foot Spanish Colonial mansion as his resort home. The structure overlooks Lake Como and is in the area where pirate Jean Laffite and his band of pirates had a 3 day long battle with the Karankawa in 1818.

I'm so happy they ae finally renovating this place. Did it look like they'd done much work or were there recently?

I hope they redo the tilework, too. That place was stunning in its heyday

Wow, looks like something out of a cartel movie. Like Tony Montana's body is buried in the yard. Very nice find. Jelly.

Yes, work was definitely underway, major renovation. I was there Labor Day weekend, I'm sure everyone was busy celebrating a three day weekend.

And yes, I loved all the tile. It did appear they were trying to preserve it, somewhat.

According to older pictures, there were several more murals on the walls of the entry area. Very sad they were vandalized!

Indeed they are doing a great deal of work down there! It is going to be called "Bayside at Waterman's", link below to the developer's website. They're selling these super high end shotgun-esque style homes that will fill out the area. (Check out their renders of what is to be)

They are going to reuse the mansion in some respects by turning it into their pool house (if my memory serves correct) but the entire surrounding landscape will be totally different. The developer knocked down the historic entry wall/gate which ruffled some feathers but all in all they will at least restore and keep the structure... a lot of contention at my work over this currently

Viewed the video, a complete bastardization in my opinion but I suppose better than allowing it to fall further into disrepair. Glad I had a chance to see it while it still had some of it's original charm.
