Pre-Birthday Wanderings of Industry & Houses

It's my birthday today (yay!) and yesterday me and my friend went out on a day of explores to celebrate. I must say I haven't had a more enjoyable day on home soil for ages, everything went absolutely perfectly.

We hit three sites fairly close to each other, and had planned a fourth but our stop for an early-afternoon mega cooked breakfast in a local greasy spoon cafe meant we didn't have enough time for it. What we did do however was awesome.

First stop was a massive old brewery constructed in the mid-1800s, it's a place which has really flown under the radar and not been explored a great deal and I can't for the life of me understand why as it's a brilliant, and most importantly nice and chilled, explore. After getting wet and muddy on the way in due to the heavy rain in the morning, ripping a large hole in my coat and then ruining my back getting in and out it was a great unexpected surprise.

Next up was a Wireworks and nearby ruined manor house, the manor was built by the owner of the Wireworks for his three unmarried daughters to live in but they never moved in and it was sold to another of the owners. In the 1970s the Wireworks went bust and closed down and that spelt the end for the occupation of the manor house as well, it was turned into flats before being used as a religious retreat and eventually was abandoned in the 1980s, falling victim to a devastating fire in the 1990s. Now it is just a shell but a very imposing ruin. The factory area as you can imagine is totally empty but is home to an impressive array of graffiti including a few pieces by the brilliant Colorati.

Last stop was a small farmhouse in a field in the middle of nowhere. I'm still not sold on these small houses as I much prefer industrial stuff like the sites earlier in the day but the small details inside gave me a chance to play with my 30mm Sigma prime lens at least. I just find it hard to get excited by these kind of places, and I guess thats what makes this hobby so varied as everyone enjoys shooting different things.

I was going for the sewing machine, and got this shot instead.
