"Yes, let me tell you once again/I am the captain of my pain"

Last week while I was in the San Francsico area I didn't really have many exploring plans since the area tends to be fairly devoid of the sort of abandonments that I enjoy most and I didn't come prepared with any waterproof stuff for drains.

However, on Sunday when I was out driving with a friend we came across an enormous abandoned military base South of the city. It was dark at the time, but the police officer we talked to said that it would be fine to come back during the day for pictures as long as I avoided the area of the base that is still being cleaned up (or that is still semi-active or whatever).
The next day I went back and it's much bigger than I'd even expected. Barracks-type buildings sprawl off in all directions as far as the eye can see. Getting in them would be easy as most of the doors are wide open, but each of the buildings is pretty clearly marked "US Property - No Trespassing." I had no problems walking around the area taking pictures, though. In fact, lots of cars were driving through there as well. I think that the University of California has a campus on the grounds or near them.

Most of what I saw that day was residential, but there were a few cool things. On the way out I saw some more cool less residential-looking buildings and next time I'm in town (which turns out to be this weekend) I'll probably go back there for some more pictures. I love me some abandonment.
