On my way to Midland I have passed this place dozens of times and never stopped. Part of the reason is that its a bit of a pain to get to. The only place to park is in front of a gate, right on a 2 lane highway and in plain view of God and everyone. Its also a about 300 yards from the gate and you are highly visible while walking.

I'm not sure what this place used to be but it is all thats left of a town called Field Creek, Texas. Below is a bit of history I was able to dig up on the town.

FIELD CREEK, TEXAS. Field Creek is on State Highway 71 twenty miles northwest of Llano in the northwest corner of Llano County. The area was first settled in the late 1850s, and a store was built at the site on Trout Creek in 1877. The creek was renamed Field Creek at this time, and the town was named for it. A post office was established there in 1878 with Moses Fisher as postmaster. Field Creek had two cotton gins before 1900. From World War II to the 1980s the population was thirty. The post office was closed in 1976.

Wow never heard of the place and you piqued my interest. I'll have to put it on my hit list - thanks. Kinda surprising this place is pretty much gone. It's at the intersection of two major interstates in the middle of nowhere. You would think it would be an ideal location.

At one time Kent it's own small 1-12 school. It got gutted by fire 50 (?) Years ago. There's still a few who live there. It's isolated by highway miles to spite being on a major interstate. In it's day it was a ranchers town.
It's a odd place. To the south a few miles is a private paved air strip owned by a local rancher... Texas is strange.
