A Load of Rubbish

A week or so ago I hit up a spot I had previously failed earlier this year due to too many people wandering around the streets. It's first function when it was constructed in the 1970s was as a waste incinerator but as times changed and peoples attitudes shifted more towards recycling goods it was converted into a council waste recycling centre alongside the incinerator plant. It shut down around the turn of the millenium and in most of the place it looks like the workers simply switched the machines off and walked away at the end of the last day.

The first thing we came across was a whole conveyor full of dusty drinks cans all dating from 1999/2000 which was a real trip down memory lane for me, and further into the site the majority of the machinery is all still sat there covered in grime and dirt.

The lighting in here is horrendous, and not helped by the fact almost everything is covered in a grey grimy sludge but I did my best, and following the very tight squeeze to get in and out we were off on our way safely.

I enjoyed it, I've done a couple of waste incinerators now and they each had distinctly different styles.

Really cool place! Any idea what the white columns are above the hoppers? Looks like they are made out of canvas or something.

Mookster, really neat place. If this was in the U.S. those cans would have been converted to crack cocaine long ago.

It's a baghouse for cleaning dust out of the air.
Plug baghouse into the googles for an explanation on how they work.
There are extremely common here but usually enclosed so you don't see the bags.
