I wish I had some history on this place but I cant find anything on the web. The site consists of about half a dozen buildings in various stages of decay. In front of the mill is a modern office building that sits empty in the afternoons. While in one of the warehouses, I heard a truck start up just on the other side of the wall scaring the shit out of me.
I walked around to the side of the building and met this guy:
1.
I wish I knew his name but I have completely forgotten. I explained what I was doing and he had no problem with me going over the place. We began talking and said that he used to work as a crane operator at the place which closed in 1999. Today he helps maintain the facilities and helps out when the migrant workers come during planting and harvesting. I was fortunate enough that he gave me a tour of the place, explaining what the various pieces of equipment did. He even gave me some sugar cane which I had never had before - it was delicious!
