Some long forgotten cold war relics (EXTREMELY PIC HEAVY)

So after a month of planning, and an entire day's worth of trying to find the place, (including a 3 or more mile round trip hike up the wrong mountain) we finally got to the lower camp of the east mountain air force/radar base. This base was used to monitor for Russian attacks, and was in service from the 50s to the 60s. It's big claims to fame were reporting a UFO, which was never identified. I don't believe it was aliens, however many people say it was the ufo that supposedly abducted 2 people in new hampshire. It also has had multiple deaths, from tourists falling off the roof of the tower to a snowmobiler being decapitated on a wire fence.

1. After arriving at the base village, the garage (pics 1 2 and 3) was the first building we found.

2.

3.

4. Next we found the old dining hall.

5. Not much inside, but cool all the same. It is one of the biggest remaining buildings. (one of the only remaining buildings, as most of the shower buildings and barracks have been scrapped for the sheet metal and are just foundations.

6. Not sure what these are. it was in a separate room off of the dining hall. IF anyone has ideas feel free to comment.

7.

8. One of the few remaining barracks.

9. Too bad it is collapsing in the middle.

10. Ventilation system, surrounded by asbestos and other insulation.

11. Entrance to the gymnasium. I know this picture has a PoE in it, but trust me, you could simply walk into any building there. they gave up trying to keep people out years ago.

12.

13. The non load bearing walls were a mess.

14.

15. It looks like someone was looking copper fixtures to scrap.

16. A really deep, unfriendly looking cistern of sorts.

17. This hut looked like it may have been a guard checkpoint. The whole back of it collapsed.

18. After a long and grueling hike, we finally made it to the top.

19. everything about the building interiors was sketchy.

20.

21. We entered the big building through the lift entrance. here's the shaft of it.

22. It was a big lift for a small building.

23. View through the window on floor 2. It was a bit too dangerous to get closer.

24. fourth and top floor. Couldn't get to the roof this time.

25.

26. Some kind of really big impeller. Not sure what it was used for past pushing air through ducts (which were littered everywhere off the side of the building.

27.

28.

29. Another building off to the side. very different from the others up top, and it had all these strange trenches in it.

30. A tank that was dug up and moved so cars can no longer drive up.

Thanks for viewing!

Nicely done. GOod to see this place. #6 is part of a boiler, heat-exchanger. Would have been used for central heating or hot -water distribution.

#29 was probably their NOC/telecom building. I have seen similar ones with those troughs. THey were used to allow cabling to run below ground level but still be accessible, sort of like cable trays / false floors are used in server rooms now.

Cool place! 6 & 7 is a steam boiler, probably used for heat. They were quite common in old hospitals, this one looks to be on the small side.
That view in 23 is spectacular!!
