We're all very familiar with the distinct "factory green" that adorns the lower halves of walls in factories everywhere. I was wondering - what is the official name of that color? (If there is one) I was entertaining the thought of remodeling my bathroom using a factory/industrial color scheme/theme.

Is this "factory green"?
In Polish factories it was a very popular pigment and it's called zieleń trwała, so that would be permanent green, however I can't find it under that name, it looks quite different.
It's a mix of emerald green and yellow (baryte yellow, or cadmium yellow). Hope that helps.

Ok Retro_Chick you got me curious now, I know Ive heard of this before.

I was recalling tile as you see on lower half of walls in hospitals called chrome green. Turns out it is a color available in paint too, refers to chromium used in that pigment.

It's chromium green, also loosely referred to as "institutional green". Colors vary from a deep bluish green to a light yellowish green almost a minty color, but chromium is the primary colorant.
The main reason it was extensively used was because it was very durable, cheap, and had some antimicrobial properties due to the use of chromium.
There are other benefits such as being soothing and counteract the blood color in surgical rooms.
Ive seen it in hospitals, asylums, schools, industrial, commercial, and buildings, prisons, and missile silos.
My high school had a classroom wing from the 1940s and all the rooms were originally green. Only 2 rooms had the green when I went there in the 80s. So In my junior year, all rooms were painted beige. It was considered a "learning" color. Greens put you to sleep.
Hospitals dont use the green anymore. If you ask people to reference institutional green, they have images of coldness, insanity, and illness. They want to promote healing, so they use healing colors. Modern hospitals use warm colors like browns, beige, creams, and other earthy colors and modern paint formulas are just as or more durable than the chrome green of the past.

I'd say mint green or seafoam green.

Got a VW bus that I'm planning on painting close between those colors, seems to be the same colors I've seen in old schools, hospitals, etc.
