Ouija board in asylum?!
< on 10/8/2015 2:20 PM >

Posted on Forum: UER Forum
Never thought I'd be sharing this but here goes nothing! So yesterday I spent time at my grandmothers house and I decided to watch chucky because why not. So after the movie is over I started thinking about playing with an ouija board. My dad never let me have one as something happened to my grandma with one so I figured I'd ask. She told me that she still has it but It's locked in her attic. She also told me that he sister and her were playing with it, no candles no nothing and out of nowhere the board caught on fire. (she's very young, she isn't losing it yet lol) She told me I can look for it and keep it. It's not one of those toy ones, it's a wooden one. Thinking about using it at Letchworth Village, any thoughts?

This has been scientifically studied many times. It works on a concept called the Ideomotor effect. It will respond with what you want it to do, because the person playing is actually moving it subconsciously. No ghosts, just interesting science.

Sure why not. I would suggest that before you go you may want to do the following:

1. Write Santa a letter
2. Put a tooth under your pillow
3. Pray to the invisible man in the sky that grants us all wishes.

You'll find the charred toy will be equally effective...

Maybe you just haven't found God yet. I can send my people to your door with The Book of Mormon if you would like.

Ok I'll bite. Stories are great and we love hearing them especially if they are accompanied by pictures. We're just giving you a hard time but your story raise a ton of questions:

1. Why not Chuckie? I dunno maybe because you'll never get that time or IQ drop back?

2. Your dad never let you play with an Ouiji board because of something that happened with his mom when she was a kid?
A. Did you ever ask your dad about this as an adult or was this when you were a kid?
B. Does your father currently believe in spontaneously combusting board games?
C. Did it ever occur to you that maybe he just didn't want to buy you an Ouiji board when you were a kid because it's hokum?

3. Your grandmother still has the board but it's locked in the attic.
A. Why is it locked away? Does she think that it's going to come alive and attack her?
B. If this thing catches fire on its own wouldn't putting it in the most flammable part of the house be counterintuitive?
C. If this experience was so traumatic (presumably traumatic enough to prevent 3 entire generations from using it) why does she still have it? And more importantly why would she give it to you? Does she hate you?

4. While using it the board caught fire on its own. On the surface of it I'm willing to dismiss this assertion completely however I have some questions.
A. I'm no Ouija expert but don't two people put their hands on a pointing device that slides on the board to work? If so wouldn't both your grandmother and her sister show some signs of scarring? I mean it IS fire and they had their hands directly in it!
B. Did their clothes or hair catch fire?
C. Did the board or the pointer show any evidence of this conflagration whatsoever or was this a "magic cold fire"?
D. Has your great aunt passed away so she can verify this story?

I'm glad that you clarified that this wasn't a "toy" Ouija board and said it was a wooden (I.e. REAL) Ouija board. The legal team at Parker Brothers dodged a bullet on that one! Imagine the lawsuits from millions of people with cardboard necromancy devices that suddenly call forth the flames of hell and hurt little children. That can't be good for the bottom line!

Don't take it personally. Its just that urban explorers think ghosts are silly.
Anything involving paranormal things will get ripped apart here.

Depends. DO you mean the show or the actual religious text? Because a door-to-door production of BoM would be pretty funny.
