A chance find whilst on our way to a certain large factory.

I spotted this looming in the distance after noticing the missing tiles on the roof, going past the front it became clear that it was both abandoned and had a stupidly inviting entrance point right on the street so we parked up and headed in quickly not knowing what to expect.

Needless to say I was stunned by what was inside. It is definitely one of the most beautiful intact churches I have photographed.

The end is where it got a little interesting. Like many churches in America this one was built with the actual church on a slightly elevated floor, with the sub-basement underneath home to a community space/meeting rooms etc. We ventured down into the basement and were confronted with a brand new shiny white door which we thought a little odd but we gave it a push, and it happened to open up right into the basement rooms they were using as a replacement for the main church up above complete with new altar, a drum kit, glass display cases and folding seats etc!

Needless to say we didn't hang around much longer in case someone turned up...

Wow, beautiful find. Not a single broken window in sight from the looks of it.

From your description, are they doing repairs to this main cathedral and holding services in the basement for now? Would be a shame if it wasted away like this.

Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing.

I'd be lying if I said I knew. It didn't look like there was any work going on when we were there. At some point the steeple has been removed which has made one corner of the church rotten to the core, which really isn't helping things. From the looks of a leaflet we found inside, the last service in the main church was only held in June 2014, when I guess the state of the main building got too bad and they had to relocate. I hope something is done to save it, as it really is gorgeous.
