I think the costs are all docking fees and security...

Sorry to see her go though.

I'm flying into Philadelphia in about two weeks. I'll go right over it (assuming it's still there).

I'm not surprised it's going. I'm surprised it's been there as long as it has.
Its pretty obvious, especially to this crowd that there is little to no regard for anything historic.

The SS United States Conservancy is claiming they may still have a chance to save it, but they are rapidly running out of time at this point they are just about begging for donations... and rightfully so

The personal responsibility train left the station years ago, and you gave it the finger as you watched it leave.

Photographed the ship on behalf of the conservation and I must say its a beauty, even though its gutted in its abandonment. I'm working with them to do a last minute fundraiser / photo op for everyone interested in donating to the cause. As more details emerge I'll share them with those interested in the group.

Sadly, I will / cannot share photos from the inside, until it is no more.

Feel free to reach out if you're interested in donating to the cause.

Best,

@Atothe

If something in the military costs less than $60,000.00 it's a miracle. I will take this moment to decry the military industrial economy, how much bloat the military carries, etc.

Anyway, this would be an amazing explore but I'm gonna say I don't want to end up in whatever Guantanamo they have set up now. You get caught on that thing and you've possibly put your life in some wide-eyed 18-year-old kid's hands- and he's holding an automatic weapon. I feel like a negative nancy tonight but I wouldn't be caught dead in a restricted military shipyard.

On the other hand I could be totally wrong, it could be a walk-on.

But do you want to take that chance?

What the inside looks like is no secret. There is a couple excellent sets of photos from inside floating around on this site. A few of the members here through the years have gotten permission from the conservatory to shoot this magnificent Ship.

I vacation on the Outer Banks islands off the coast of North Carolina and there used to be a restaurant named the Windmill Point in the town of Nag's Head. Years ago they purchased a great deal of the furnishings, fittings and memorabilia from this ship and moved it to their restaurant. After some research, I found an awesome link to someone who took photos of it all.
Sadly, the restaurant went out of business in 2007 and the collection was split up and donated to a museum and a university in Newport News, Virginia.
Check out the link. It's fascinating if you're a fan of the ship.

According to their site (http://myemail.con...80&aid=Nj3aRsDlEcY), the ship has been saved for at least another month.
I also read elsewhere that they are now planning on towing it to Brooklyn where it will be permanently docked.
