All Gummed Up

I like many kinds of abandoned locations - churches, schools, hospitals - all the usual stuff. However nothing gets me going quite like abandoned industry, so when I was confronted with this place I pretty much had a happy trouser accident right there and then - a simply enormous monolith of a factory spread over nine sprawling floors. Not having seen any photos of the place before I didn't know what to expect, and once inside I was in my element. I spent a large amount of time wandering around the huge place on my own, away from the other six in our group. Way more than I normally explore with and they were busy getting in everyone's shots (hence the reason we tagged the weekend the 'you're in my shot tour') so I quite enjoyed the peace and quiet and taking it at my own pace. Come to think of it, I explored a lot of the locations on my trip over on my own away from the groups I was with and I have to say it did wonders for my confidence.

This was by far and away the nicest smelling explore I have ever done - the majority of the factory has a very strong odour of Spearmint, and congealed on the floors are big pools of glucose and other raw gum making materials, which makes some floors incredibly sticky and other floors almost spongey. I loved this place, it's right up there with my favourite factories I have explored. I could of quite happily spent the entire day in there but we had other places to be.

If this is the same place i'm thinking (the smell of spearmint and glucose on floor lead me to believe so), i've had two failed attempts here: First time, a trucker saw the first group of us dart inside (everyone ended up getting out before the cops showed up), so he called the police. The second time (rather recently), police training was in session. Doesn't help it's on a damn busy intersection either!
I've never actually saw photos of the inside until now, so thanks for sharing! Nice work!

I'm not surprised by that - as I'm sure you know the way into the site is ridiculously out in the open, and all it would take is one 'concerned citizen' to see you and it's game over. I don't quite know how we managed to get six or seven of us inside without being rumbled, although someone did honk at us as the last of us slipped inside. It's well worth the effort though, it really is awesome inside.

Sigma 10-20mm wide angle, rarely ever leaves my side on an explore.

I love number 12! The columns reflected in the water makes for an excellent shot! Overall, fantastic documentation and photos as usual. I feel like I should do what you do - explore on my own away from the group. Whenever I've tried to go solo before, I always get super paranoid so maybe that would help me out in that regard. Nonetheless, thanks for sharing and I look forward to seeing more from you soon!

There's the crazy one, the photographer, and me, the driver, a mix of both. And we're a pretty kickass team if I do say so myself.

I was pretty nervy to begin with, but after a while especially in this place I just relaxed and enjoyed myself - I've only ever done a couple of true solo explores but whilst everyone else was busy chatting and stuff I made good the opportunities to explore and I really enjoyed it, in my eyes it was 'true' exploring being on your own with no idea what was around the next corner :p

Yup. Its the one and same. Was here earlier this year, and a trip last year. If you search the name of the location, and "Abandoned" on google images, an endless supply of pictures are out there. Its a local fav for sure.

Rule #1 is definitely Dont step in the black stuff! Some of that is stronger then glue and will pull a shoe off.

It's a popular spot and I can see why! I would be in here all the time if it was my local site. Luckily my shoes remained on my feet, I've heard stories about explorers whose shoes got so firmly attached to the floors in here that they had to abandon them and buy new shoes! From memory photo 5 is the really sticky floor, but I also remember the floor in the last photo being squishy instead of sticky which was very odd.

Awesome explore. Love all the machinery. Would be great to see all of them in action. Glad you didn't get all Gummed up and stuck to the floor. lol.

a Big plus to the explorer who finds the shoe or boot thats still stuck in the gooey glucose and takes a pic of it.
