It was a very hot day in early August that we picked for exploring. But since I had not been to any buildings since early June I wasn't to concerned about the heat. I just wanted to get out there again! After striking out at several locations we were becoming a bit disenchanted with how the day was going. I saved this church I had heard about for our last stop.

As we drove by I noticed several POEs right away and immediately became excited. The day was not going to be a waste after all! The heat inside was even worse than outside and the sound of buzzing flies filled our ears as we entered. We thought for sure we would find something dead with the amount of flies swarming around, luckily we did not. This place was great and made us quickly forget our failures earlier in the day.

Built in 1914 this church has had several names over the years. Vacant since 2008 it has been home to squatters and the like. They seem to have moved on the other places however. The current owner, a reverend, has made no attempt to fix or seal up the property and currently has a warrant out from the city housing court.

Why don't you come in and have a seat over there....

Sweet, I love old churches. Looks to be in decent shape considering it's been left wide open. Nice work!

The buildings themselves are in decent shape considering they are wide open to the elements and people. However there is stuff strewn about EVERYWHERE. I have never seen anything quite like it. Childrens toys, books, magazines, boxes, probably close to 1000 liquor bottles and even more pop and juice bottles and cans. It looks like a thrift store collided with a hobo camp.

I know one building was once used as a squatters camp, which explains some of the mess. My assumption is that the previous church owners were hoarders to some degree, which would explain the rest of the mess. It made for some good photos, but also made moving around a bit difficult at times due to the floors being covered in random crap.

The couch seems to be popular, I have seen the same shot taken by other local explorers.

Really enjoyed your pics Swan! Pic 2 and 3 and those old shoes on the ledge are awesome. The old stereo is quite interesting as well as the piano and the sheet music. Absolutely sure your sentiments on that photo was the thought of the day. lol.

The shoes were bizarre. The spot is fairly well traveled by locals, so they may have been placed there by a previous explorer.

Here is another old stereo from another room in the same building. Oh and both pianos still work!
Pro tip: Piano notes are LOUD in a abandoned building.

Nice.

I'd love to have a rope in place of a front door bell that rang that bell.

Well maybe not when the Mormons or Seventh Day Adventists ring on the weekend at all hours of the morning.

It was a calendar actually and it was in surprisingly good shape. Especially considering it was just lying on the floor.
