Are the missile bunkers with that one? That is the command area. The missiles are usually within a mile to a few miles of the command center. Some are underground magazines; all Nike fired from the surface.

That was the control site. As you stated, the launch site was usually 1 to 2 miles away. From what I read, many of the launch sites in CT are located on what are still active Army or Army Reserve facilities.
