I had been to this location several times, and a friend recently told me there was stuff hanging from the ceiling so we headed back. There were different color lengths of plastic? string / wire hanging all around the open area in the back.

Red cord tied to pole.

Red cord tied to old? paint can.

Long bundle of white cords. Another weird thing was this wall was covered by sheets of plain paper. We didn't mess with them, but they stuck through the wind blowing.

Blue string up top

Black strings hanging down

Black strings duct taped to wall. Someone brought supplies and took time to set this up.

Blue string held taught at bottom

I swear I just saw this on Reddit. I'm going to say someone had a photoshoot there.

Yeah haha I posted it on both sites. And yeah probably. I was hoping for something more exciting.

The only thing I could find googling was this

and it seems a lot more elaborate. I guess someone was just lazy.

I've seen this before. I can't remember the name of the artist, but a well known artist does displays like this. There is definitely one at the museum of Fine arts, in Boston, and another in one of my colleges' buildings. I will post a picture here later. Chances are somebody saw and liked the style of art and was giving it a try themselves.

2.

Edit: here they are.

There was an installation in DC similar to the one in Philly. It's since been taken down and the building sealed up.

I'm assuming it's not related due to the distance and type of string used, but someone was doing this in a few building in Gary. Some kind of cat's cradle crap all over certain rooms with string. Nothing nearly as structured as the ones linked to though. I think it's some kind of fad at the moment.
