Hey !

Just wanted to let everybody know that we recently launched a new Mine Hunters YouTube channel down here in Atlantic Canada. We've been working on it for a while.

ABANDONED MINE EXPLORATION NOVA SCOTIA

It's been up for a few weeks now, but we wanted to get a decent amount of content posted before we brought it up on here. We feel it's kind of a nice blend of UE + spelunking + history/researching + danger. If it sounds like your thing, check it out.

There are now seven episodes up, with lots more to come during the remainder of the summer/fall season here in Nova Scotia. We'll go pretty much on hiatus for the winter once the snow flies. Then back again in late spring.

Our group is made up myself (kramer), Historian124, and recently Darkzero came aboard after moving from Alberta. Good ol' Nootz will be coming along on some trips soon we hope, as time allows.

The series starts fairly simple, with easy explores to get things in stride ... then quickly ramps up into more involved levels of "UE type" exploring and usually trespassing. The most recent episodes are finally at the level we want: deeper, more dangerous underground explores. We mask all faces and voices, and the episodes aren't posted until we are done with a site for good (not going back).

This kinda stuff isn't for everybody, but we find it fascinating. It indeed can be risky, but we accept those risks, like with any type of UE. Hopefully we present it in a way that is compelling and informative. Our goal is to have the viewers along for the adventure.

Please Subscribe and Like if you enjoy the stuff. THANKS !!

Historian124 also runs our Facebook page (same name as YouTube) if you want to join that, and be informed of updates and see exclusive photos and stuff...

Episodes eight, nine, ten, and eleven are up now. Eleven being the Dorchester Copper Mine - the largest explore we have done to date. That was a massive massive mine with a deeeeeep underground trek to get there and back.

Episodes twelve, thirteen, and fourteen are up now. Our 2015 season is quickly drawing to a close (it's getting damn cold out!) but we still have several more episodes left that are on their way.

There's a large group of mine explorers out here in the desert southwest. I'm just starting to shoot underground video but haven't put up anything yet. My test videos have got me thinking about how to set up my lights for acceptable video.

Two weeks ago we dropped a number of shafts from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. Unfortunately most of them were plugged. In one mine I was able to push through a small gap in the plug, then drop another 50 feet or so. Found a drift at the bottom that I was able to get into, but it ended less than 100 feet in. The "bottom" I was standing on was actually another plug, but there wasn't any way to push through that one. It's a bit spooky climbing back out when you are praying that the plug above you doesn't give away. Another shaft in the same area dropped down about 120 feet but no drifts to be found. A bit of ladder helped me get out, but most of it was just SRT.

You can visit my website at: http://www.mine-explorer.com Tons of pictures.

We're BAAACK - 2016 Season of Nova Scotia MineHunters, continues on YouTube.

Our group has been back out active as of a month ago, and we've got several new episodes in the can. Two new members in the group recently as well. Lots of sites and trips out this summer, all of which can be watched from the comfort of your armchair. We even picked up a small sponsorship from NiteCore flashlights recently, and they gave us $500 in lighting products to test/feature in future shows later this summer.

YouTube channel is here:

I'll add the thumbnails missed from the last shows of the 2015 season, as well as the new 2016 shows:

This is really cool.
There are a lot of mines around where I live and have been very tempted to explore them but I certainly don't want to go in alone.

Abandoned mines (at least to us) provide a very fulfilling UE experience quite different from old buildings. All of us come from traditional UE backgrounds, so this was just the next logical step. Yes, it ups the ante for danger technically, but the excitement factor of the unknown combined with the sheer industrial toil and age within these places, it often gets the imagination pumping when underground.

Go give it a try sometime. You are correct - never go alone. Be sure to take backups upon backups of lights. Go slow, be observant, don't touch anything, and in the rare case of feeling anything "off" with your breathing, quickly back out to where it was OK, and never go back to that area.

And therein, as the bard would tell us, lies the rub.

Hi Kramer,

How do you select your mines? I've been using old data from the province combined with modern satellite to try to see which may have been paved/flooded/developed over, versus abandoned in the boonies.

Still need to find some peeps to start looking around Alberta with. Your videos look awesome!
