My friends and I use to explore sewers and storm drains when we were kids but haven't done it in years.

Any advice on the best and safest ways to do it?

What about issues with the law? Is this breaking any?

Thanks....

Most sewers are owned and operated by cities. Entering, tampering, or otherwise interacting with them via means beyond your commode is at the simplest level trespassing.

So, if you get caught...(IF)..., it will be up to the authorities to decide your fate. Often, if you're polite and up-front, you will walk away with only a warning. That is not guaranteed however, so you explore at your own risk...as so much of this site already conveys.

As for safety, use caution with sewers. Storm drains can flood in seconds, so always have an egress and know the weather. Sewers can lack oxygen (often displaced by gases). Weigh the risks. Personally, sewers are nasty places. Storm drains can be interesting. Your mileage may vary. Good luck!

I really meant storm drains. Sewers I wouldn't go near for obvious reasons...

Thanks for the info...

Sewers are nice to explore. I'd say go in them!

If you hear a wall of water coming, take off your clothes and hold them above your head.

Wow those are cool pics!

I'm in Dallas. Not sure if it's proper etiquette to talk about exactly where I'm looking, but some new construction has changed a former entrance to some tunnels...

Your photos are probably some of my favorite photos from this site/any online Urbex website. These are crazy good!

No drains if it rains! Also, bring a couple of flashlights and wear waterproof footwear, possibly thigh or waist-high gear depending on where you're going.

You'll find lots of good stuff under the "Draining" heading here:
http://www.uer.ca/...=1&threadid=118368

I'd say storm dreams are a good place to start. Sewers aren't as bad as people tend to assume, but definitely not a place for new explorers! And of course storm drains are much safer when it comes to air quality. Just don't go near them if there's any chance of rain.

I'm going to move this over to the rookie forum.

Why? To keep them dry? Lol
