Thorns slip right through jeans like sewing needles, break off and become trapped.

long sleeves and long pants beat short sleeves and shorts! my grandma suggested to me to try thick leather gardening gloves. Got yet to get some and try it out.

And D, for your *actual* question, "denim" is actually the right answer - but I specifically recommend Carhartt's. They actually have extra layers of denim around the butt, knees, and thighs - high points of contact with the mofo blackberry bushes. Check em out, they are sturdy as fuck and last forever.

I can say that I am yet to find any kind of clothing that is resistant to thorns. And anyone who knows me knows that I am like a magnet for them, if there are some thorn bushes I will find them and I will get spiked by them.

They aren't the cheapest pants, but far better than jeans. I also have the Firehose and Flex Firehose pants. They are indestructible. Working around the house and farm as well as camping and hiking, these pants hold up better than any pair of jeans.

Okay, so I come from the land of blackberries. As someone who has spent their entire life crawling through them like brier rabbit...boots. Good boots and cargo pants are the best you're going to get.

Blackberries tend to stay low unless they have something to climb, then you're in rougher shape. Wearing a ball cap is always good. Most of the thorns are different sizes, so there is no fix all. The large thorns are easy to see and the majority of it stayed on one side of your clothing and can be pulled out...but the little ones are tricky.

Definitely boots, though. Leather tends to be hard for blackberries to penetrate, as a rule. But I don't think an all leather catsuit would be the most ideal outfit for exploring.

+1 on leather boots. I'll check out those fire hose pants. I think I know what you guys are talking about. The rough texture stuff that looks tan/paper bag brown that costs like $50. Do they breath ok or do you feel like you're in wading boots?

They breathe as well as jeans and negate the need for gators (which don't breathe at all). As for shoes, I wear Merrell Yokota boots. Not all leather, but all leather isn't necessary. I've worn the Duluth Briar-proof pants and my Merrell boots through thorns that would make blackberry bushes feel like velvet.

A couple nice features of the Duluth pants: they have a crotch gusset making movement/squatting/climbing/crawling easier and they have large, heavy-duty belt loops that, when coupled with a thick, quality belt, help them stay up (where they belong) even if you buy them a size too large.

Damnit, thorns are the WORST! I would rather climb 20 barbed wire fences and swim through a mote to get into a place before I'd go through some heavy brambles!

I do, however, have some good tips for you! I have found that thermal base layers really help with thorns. I good thick capilene 3+ base layer bottom under some bluejeans, a leather jacket, high top boots, and some mechanic's gloves and you'll be just about immune to them. But of course, you'll be sweating your ass off in that if it's not winter!
