Hey guys! Goat here again sharing another adventure from this past weekend.

Much like other sanatoriums and hospitals created in the 1930's in Maryland, this particular one lies on the outskirts of Washington DC, primarily housing and treating locals that were infected with tuberculous. Right off a highway, with 2 adjacent neighborhoods, and it's own private Park Police and trailer station smack dab in the middle makes this place one of the harder ones to enter kindly. (if being sneaky isn't your forté)

The property is very similar to the rest of the area. A small network of roads run between some of the 23 buildings, as with an underground tunnel system intertwining a couple. My trip was right after a huge rainstorm so these tunnels were flooded and inaccessible with our current footwear.

Seeing past all the relentless abuse from angry and stupidity driven teenagers exploring the place, you can feel the purpose it once had. Heliotherapy and exposure to fresh air/sunlight were preferred treatments to TB, something clearly taken into mind when the complex was being developed. A lot of the hallways on the perimeter of the 2 main hospitals were open ventilation to the outside, allowing the sunlight and fresh air through. Open solarium's and sun bathing areas could also be found in the upper stories of those buildings for patients.

From the surface, it resembles a once well kept, seemingly teeming with life, atmosphere. But a quick trip downstairs of the housing buildings would show... there was a morge in every basement.

HAHAHA! That was one of those *explosive* combo meals with taco and burrito...Known to cause painful gastrointestinal irruption and severe enough to melt even the toughest porcelain. lol

Would love to see any pics you would like to post. Thanks!

Nice place. One side was for the children. The first patients were from poor DC families. Then the five story was built for adults several years later.

I remember reading that. You could feel that the place had multiple uses back in it's day. And while you're here: have you been in the drains? Are they even worth it?

One of the more known hospitals in NC is getting torn down because a bunch of kids smashed the toilets and threw porcelain on the street, popping a couple tires.

Anyways, tell me you climbed the smokestack and water tower!

They are ALWAYS destroyed. Maybe they were hurt by them as a child? hah

WOW, that's awful. It's people like that that are going to ruin it for the rest of us. Some kids lit on fire a well known place in Maryland about 1-2 years ago, I'm surprised, with that attention, the state hasn't torn it down yet.

But haha nope I ain't climbing those! I have a drastic fear of heights, looking down a 5 story stairwell is hard enough for me >.<

Is the PG County police car still permanently parked out front?
