This year i explore less, there aren't much new spots in the city, most of the time all the places are like a lottery. I really hope i won't loose my enthusiasm for exploring because there are plenty to see in countryside, also in neighbour countries. This night i will reach Lithuania and hopefully i will explore there some abandoned places...I might post some pictures in autumn.

Enjoy last days of summer!

1. Tobacco factory.
Tobacco factory was abandoned for a long time, now some organizations wants to create there "art space" for students of local Arts Academy.

2. Some buildings of factory are demolished, some remained. Luckily, largest building is being maintained.

4. One early morning my friend wrote me text "This day sucks, only exploring can change it for good". I said "OK, we should try one rooftop i noticed on Flickr"
And yeah - we felt like we won a lottery that morning because it's VERY HARD to reach any kind of a rooftop in center area.

5.That building which looks like abandoned is former headquarters of KGB. At the beginning of Soviet times, it was known as the worst place anyone can send you to. Guiltless people were tortured there, kept like in a prison, beaten and murdered in basement. Murdering happened during 1940-1941 and 1945-1955.
These days nobody wants to rent this house, not even a flat there. Noobdy wants to renovate building because of it's dark history. Last two years there is a museum at the first floor. Museum works only at the end of spring/summertime/early autumn. Because government thinks it's too expensive to keep museum 'alive' all seasons. That's a shame because there are no excuses for crimes that happened during II World war and many years after. Those who were sent to GULAG camps probably wants this house to get burned to the ground.

7. Fellow explorer met one girl in abandoned factory who owns a key to a large half-abandoned factory. Sometimes she throw parties there. Once i got there, too. Views are FANTASTIC, really - it's possible to see port, city center and other areas. Amazing rooftop. I didn't took many pictures because i was out of film and didn't had another camera.

8. Abandoned castle, called "Kaucminde". There used to be a school for housewives. They learned how to cook, sew and so on. Afterwards, there was a school. Around 2006 it became abandoned. In few years locals destroyed it, now it's in a very bad condition and it's about to collapse any moment. It's a historical building, very large and beautiful...

12. I found there diapositives. Cool stuff.

13. Rooftop. I would return there often unless there won't be a apartment block only 10 meters away

15. Abandoned cafeteria, deep in countryside, Suntazi village. I visited a close friend who lives at countryside in summertime. It's a sad place. There used to be a railway line...until year 2007. Not long time ago, yep...There goes only 3 buses a day...

16. Abandoned orthodox church in Suntazi village. There aren't much orthodox churches in Latvia so that's why i was interested to find abandoned one.

17. Inside orthodox church. Only ruins left. Atmospheric place. It was tricky to get inside, because there's chained dog near one of the entrances.

These are stunning! I love film and these locations are some of the coolest I've seen. Especially that castle. It's kickin! Nice work. I'd say for getting out less you still got a lot of good work from it.

I love the lottery feeling when you get somewhere that is so difficult. Usually I try to plan it so it's not as hard as winning the lottery, but it's always the same feeling that you won. I found rooftops do that a lot for me. So that's sweet you got a few good ones in there.

There's a similar KGB museum in Vilnius that's worth checking out when you go there!

Cheers,
Vic

This time i couldn't spend any time in Vilnius because as soon as i arrived to there, i took a bus to Kaunas. I should visit that museum next time, luckily Vilnius is only 4 hours away from where i live, so i'd go there once again this year or next year.
