As you guys may know, small houses aren't my usual cup of tea when it comes to picking where I explore. However whilst deep in the darkest, flattest fenlands of the UK last weekend we sped past this slightly forlorn looking house sat isolated all on it's own in a field off to the side of the road. Swinging around we struggled to find a place to park so ended up doing the 'drive down the track right past it and park beside a dyke' method.

It turned out to be not quite as bad as I thought it was going to be - it'd obviously been empty for a considerable amount of time but there was still enough stuff inside to make it worthwhile stopping by. Getting into the place was the first struggle as it looked like nobody had been inside for a long while, the entire property was surrounded by deep thick stinging nettles and bramble bushes and there was a large bush growing through the access point.

Good photos. I love the old houses but they can be tricky here in Texas. We have whats called the "Castle Law" which essentially states you can shoot anyone you believe to be breaking into your house. With every redneck in the state owning an arsenal that could topple most 3rd world countries, explores like yours can be a bit risky.

With that being said I have found them to be some of the most rewarding. Looking through the stuff left behind, I always wonder why they chose to leave those items and not others. What went on in the house? What celebrations, what tragedies? You can imagine the joy and pride the 1st residents felt when they moved in and I wonder what caused them to leave. What were their lives like?

On a less serious note I also wonder what the hell people are thinking when they take these beautiful old fireplaces and do shit like plaster or tile over them!!!

Whoa Catdog, now you're making me feel old, lol! My parents and every other kid's parents had a similar stereo console unit while I was growing up. That's what they looked like in the "olden-days".

My folks had the radio integrated with the turntable controls like this one.

Excellent captures, Mookster!
