I was alerted to this property by a close friend who lives right across the street and pointed it out to me while I was over this afternoon for a visit. In hindsight, I must have passed by it many times over the years, but never really clued into it's abandoned status until he mentioned that it was in fact completely derelict, as the owners had skipped town about 5 years ago amid a flurry of unpaid bills and mortgages. A bit of research uncovered them as being somewhat notorious fraudsters who quite literally fled in the middle of the night and have not been heard from since. It's presently owned by one of several creditors and has been taken off the market after being briefly listed for ~$4 million a few years back. It has since been allowed to fall into disrepair and is so full of mold and extensive water damage that it will likely be a "tear down", or at least would need to be stripped to the (steel) frame and completely re-built.
The house itself is an interesting juxtaposition of both ultra-high end and ultra-low end finishes. There's the $10,000+ infinity edge bath tub in the master bedroom contrasted with the plywood and laminate island counter-top in the kitchen. The appliances are shockingly cheap Best Buy type things you'd find in a frat house, yet the bathrooms have thousand dollar sinks. The basement has 12ft ceilings, and yet the structural glass windows were improperly installed and have begun to leak like sieves. The drywall looks to have been installed by an amateur teenager, yet they splurged on four separate furnaces and complete radiant floor heating throughout.
As my friend is quite literally the one who would be pestered by punk kids and vandals destroying this place, I promised to withhold any info pertaining to it's whereabouts, so please don't ask. It would not be impossible for a dedicated sleuth to track down, but if you do, please don't make it the village bicycle, as has happened before. The neighbors keep a close eye on this place and will most certainly call the cops if they see you traipsing about ;D
Here are a few of my favorite pics from the visit. It was completely impromptu and I only had my "mega distortion" 14-24mm lens, but you get the idea. Enjoy!
