What person would actually go through the time to do that? Crazy.

Maybe it was some squatters or whatever trying to fortify their little area. I have seen locks and doors on middle of the woods tent/shacks before so it wouldn't surprise me. Or it was someone just looking to dick someone over.

Good thing you guys made it out. I would get that cut stitched up or at least get some butterfly stitches for it. As well as a tetanus shot.

Wow that is crazy! Thanks for the heads up. Now I'm terrified to explore alone.

I saw what I assume to be a booby trap during my first-ever explore in 2012. It was a small hospital abandoned around 2007, but was in severe decay because of vandals. Because of that, the first floor was majorly trashed out, including walls with holes in them. There were zero door frames in tact on the entire floor -- except two in the back corner of a hallway split down the middle.

These two doors were shut, with a very, very long wire reaching from underneath the doorway on the other side to the doorknob. It was met with what looked to be part of a clothes hanger, wrapped tightly around the door knob. My friend wanted to touch one, but right before he did, we heard something scratching against the other door from the inside, so we ended up running upstairs in fear. I never cared to look at the doors on my other visits, but looking back, I think it's more of a security system for whoever lived there.

The closest thing to a booby trap I've run into is a curtain of small fish hooks hanging from thin monofilament. It was probably put up by a former squatter of the place, since it was a run down trailer out in the Carrizo Plains.

I've since learned that pot farmers would setup similar traps around their illegal plantations.

I've helped set up similar in rural areas. Always be suspicious of something locked up extra well with one obvious weak point.

I wish I had a photo of it but my neighbor had all these fake geese in his yard and somebody stole a few one night so he made a booby trap.. He stuck a goose on the top of a tree trunk that they had cut down so it was about 6 feet up, then put "Beware of booby trap" on a board of wood and mounted it to the tree with a mouse trap and chest height... pretty clever if you ask me.

I noticed for some reason the photo I posted of the aftermath of the booby trap is not showing so I'm going to try to post it again....

I have found razor-wire strung under windows - don't climb in or you'll hang in the coils of wire. But I haven't yet found a snare like this! Y'all watch out.

Never have I ever experienced or heard of anyone running into anything like this. THIS THIS THIS is why we should not explore alone. Not because of fear of ghosts or to take pictures of each other. You never know what situation you will find yourself in that having one other person there with you will solve. Seriously though, fuck. Glad your friend made it out okay and was able to stay calm. And glad you were able to think quickly and not freak out. Thanks for sharing and double thanks for taking a picture for the rest of us.

I have never ran into booby traps at all, but will keep an eye out from now on. Some people go to pretty extreme lengths to protect their space, but this is ridiculous. Glad everyone was alright, that could have been a lot worse.

That's crazy!

The closest thing I've heard of something like this, I have no idea if it's true or not, is in one of the buildings in my area used to have fish hooks hanging at eye level.

That is pretty fucked up

I'm not big into crawling through windows. It's consider burglary.
Setting booby traps is illegal and the property owner is liable.
I would consider calling the cops on that one.

Open manholes in tall grass are fun too...

yeah uh i don't know what state this kind of shit is legal in but you'd be hauled the fuck to court in Mass. for at least assault w/ intent to injure

from a purely observational standpoint, nice bit of engineering there on that one haha. definitely took some tender love and care

Wasn't he killed while trespassing at Area 51 by a M16A2 mine?

I figured this would be the best place to put this, despite the thread necromancy involved.

This is a tripwire triggered booby trap found by a potential buyer touring an abandoned house within the last two weeks. Unlike several other traps I've seen posted to UER, this one was clearly built to kill, not wound. Just thought I'd toss this out there as a cautionary note- there's some fucked up people out there.

Trap is triggered at about 1:15 in.
