With Summer slowly slipping away, I thought this might be a good time to get a few folks together for some UE in the Detroit area. Any takers ??

Good deal. I am free most weekends. Tentatively, I would think something in the third or fourth week of August would be best to give anyone who wanted to come along time to adjust their schedules.

Tentatively, we could set up a meeting on Saturday, August 29 in the Detroit area if anyone wishes to go. We could meet at a restaurant in the early afternoon hours, have a quick bite to eat and head out. I'll put that idea out for the moment and see who answers. From that point, we can set up the specific location and times.

Saturday, August 29 in the Detroit area

If I am back in town (I have to drop my car off back home for repairs on the 28th), my two exploring buddies and myself would certainly be interested! We have some locations in mind as well if anyone was lacking on ideas! I will update this thread once I find out if I can be around. Apologies for the indecisiveness!

There's the crazy one, the photographer, and me, the driver, a mix of both. And we're a pretty kickass team if I do say so myself.

I usually have to work Saturdays but I'd be free Sunday the 30th if that works for everyone.

I could work w/ a mid morning - early afternoon start on the 30th. Who else is interested in going on that date ?

Works for me. Just let me know the meet up location. I mentioned it before but I should ask, is it alright if two friends who regularly explore with me tag along?

Sure, friends are fine. We could meet on Sunday, August 30 at 11:00 AM at this nice restaurant in Hamtramck:

Maine Street
11650 Joseph Campau Ave, Hamtramck, MI 48212
(313) 368-0500

If nothing else, we could get tea/coffee and then convoy from that point. My car is a compact and can only comfortably fit one other person but I'm sure we can work out transportation once we see how many folks want to come along.
The restaurant location is about 3 miles from the Packard, 4-ish from the old Eastown Theater and, I would guess, about 20 - 25 minutes from the old Methodist cathedral North of Belle Isle. I'm open to other suggestions, of course.
John.

I might be down, but it's a bit of a drive for me. I'll have to see how next week goes.

Sounds like a plan! You can count on me being there. At that time of day we might also want to grab brunch or whatever meal of the day you all are on at that time haha.

As for locations, most of the spots on my list are downtown but the three you mentioned are ones I have not yet been too. A few churches are definitely on my to-do list this year as well so I'm cool with everything you mentioned. Highland Park High School is quite close; neat place if you guys haven't been. Lee Plaza is kind of nearby as well but is probably more southwest than the area we will be in.

11:00 on the 30th sounds great to me. I will be there. Definitely would like to see Eastown Theater before it decides to fall on itself but I'm up for almost anything.

You may catch it just in the nick of time! I was there a few weeks ago and, while the upper levels are still nominally accessible, you can ONLY walk around the perimeter. Also, the roof and one of the walls is more or less gone and the stage (where I stood back in 2012 the first time) has completely collapsed in as well.

Checked up on my schedule today and you can count me in. I've got a small two door car that can fit 2-3, in case transportation is an issue.

Never been to Detroit. I'm pretty excited for this!!

Glad to hear it's still at least semi-doable. That's disappointing about the stage though.

Yep...I was on that stage filming hither and tither in May 2012; when I went there earlier this Summer w/ a young couple we walked around the outer edge of the structure (or lack thereof!) and up to the third floor. The stage was basically a crater w/ perhaps a yard or so on any side left.
So yes, if you want to see the Eastown in any sort of shape whatsoever, 'Now!!' is a really good time before the rest of it caves in or before the city finally says, "Forget it! The rest of it has to come down this week!"
