Hi. I goT into urbex a few months ago and feel like whenever I search Flickr, Bing or Google, I've run into a using only a limited number of words and combinations for my search subjects. Currently I use:

CHICAGO
ABANDONED
DECAY
BUILDING
STRUCTURE
URBEX
EXPLORE
EXPLORER
SPACE
CLOSED BUSINESS
HOME, CHURCH, MEDICAL, ETC.
GRAFFITI

If anyone has other suggestions, I'd love to hear them, thanks!

Try: derelict , blight , forgotten...

Also consider searching on flickr . Really, your best bet is to just go outside and look around. Use google maps and then when you see something interesting, search that address/area for more information. Best of luck!

News sites like the word "shuttered" a lot.

Sometimes I also like to search for articles about mass layoffs instead of just empty buildings.

I stopped doing this because anything I searched usually took me back to the same places I've seen a hundred times, even on Flickr. Typically, I find a lot more locations by driving around and perusing Google maps than I do searching the internet.

Superfund!

In fact, you can bypass Google completely on this one and use the EPA's superfund database:

I'm going to 3rd this. Really is an amazing resource, some of the sub-sites will tell you the activity level, and contamination (if applicable) of the location. Extremely useful, I've about 2 places with it.
