Have any of you been to Needles, CA? I was pretty surprised to see how many abandoned buildings the place has. I spent hours walking the streets, taking photos of abandonments.

The only place I actually explored on the inside was the Relax Inn because it was not fenced off and was super easy to enter.

This town is in really rough shape. I imagine the number of abandoned places there is probably increasing every day.

I've passed through Needles a few times, and always noticed a lot of boarded up windows, even from the highway. Unfortunately it's always been in the car with other people on the way to the Vegas airport (my parents are retired to Havasu City), so I've never had a chance to stop and look around.

Thanks for sharing this. I'm loving the old motels and the theater especially.

Interesting to see so much abandonment in one place, especially since it seems like part of it is still occupied.

I'll definitely add this to my list pf places to check out if I am ever on the west coast.

Be sure to hook up with local explorers. There are some places that are now unsafe for UE'ers simply because they've become known as isolated places where out-of-towners with expensive camera gear go. And as much as we fancy ourselves photography ninjas, we're never going to have as much of an upper hand than a local thug with a stolen Glock and very little to lose.

Basically, don't go into any abandonment at night or alone and you should be fine. Packard is the only one that I've heard of that people consistently get robbed at (day or night).

Hate to burst your bubble about Detroit but a lot of it is being revitalized. Reach out to JohnInMi, I met up with him about three weeks ago and we did a whole bunch of sites there.

In other news, sweet spot, did you have time to scout entrances for a repeat trip? Those motels looks temping...

^I think it'll take longer than until October to revitalize all of Detroit :p Gary is actually going through a bit of a revitalization as well. I've never been to Detroit, I look forward to seeing your photos.

We passed by Needles on the way to CA, it's cool to get a bit of a closer look at it. Might be worth a visit back.

Yes. I wanted to go inside, but there was no obvious entry point. Traffic was steady enough around there that I didn't want to creep around too much.
