Being a property manager in commercial real estate definitely has its advantages. One of them is for the very reason below. I have a close friend who manages an extremely large property (approximately 1200 acres) that at one time during the hayday of WWII was the largest active base on the eastern seaboard. He literally opened up a couple of buildings for me and left me alone. Albeit very creepy at times but well worth facing the darkness and the fact that the property has tight security, I wasn't going to run into anybody else.

The last 5-7 years, the city took possession of it and has slowly transformed into a modern day commercial-use property. However, there are still some gems in this place.

Please look for future posts of mine. I have about 12 other buildings to look into before their history and their decaying beauty is lost. I was only able to check out 2 buildings today (due to time restrictions on my part) whose last operations in the building was Aug 1996 and Nov 1989 so I combined both sets of pictures here.

I think that this the mission for all of us here. You put that in perfect words "seeing what they saw". Don't get it twisted, a lot of my inspiration comes from users right here on UER. It does take a certain "eye" for photography, but having that quote in mind really helps.

Much appreciated !

I spent over two hours in just one building. I have to go back next Saturday. There is just so much to this property.

This was a delightful tour - seriously. I sat back and enjoyed every single one of these pics last week and took it in so much that I didn't even write a comment. So here's to letting you know that just because written responses don't always come flooding in doesn't mean that the deep appreciation isn't out there.

Thanks for the kind words. I know there is a deep appreciation amongst this community here on UER. The feeling is very mutual. Anyways, we can hug it out later when I get a chance to get into your beautiful country, eh?
