Several years ago, I passed one of the last houses remaining in a thriving Business District. I couldn't help but snap a few photos of the place through the window of my car.... As i drove away i wondered who it was that so proudly displayed their works of art. Time passed and so did my remembrance of this place.

1.

3.

Recently I was in that area again, and suddenly i remembered the house. Was it still there? Yes, But horribly vandalized, and the cool pieces once displayed in the yard were either missing or broken.

4.

I got out of the car and looked around at the overgrown residence and a interesting place in the weeds out back. I wondered into a lost world of art, philosophy, and forgotten sculptures.

Research of the address led me to a much admired Art Teacher who died at the ripe old age of 92, He had taught in the area schools in the 60's and 70's. He loved Works of Art, Sculpting and Philosophy.
Today many of his pieces of work sit in Tx. Art galleries. Sad that his home and studio are uncared for however, and whats left of his life sits broken and alone.

When i was walking to the car i was startled by this face starring back at me
LOL

Thanks For taking the time to view all of these!

Bored with pictures?! Never!

This truly is a unique and fascinating location and I'm glad you shared it with us! I'm curious, did you happen to look online at any of his work in art galleries or do you know the name of the artist? I'd be interested to see what his finished works look like.

There's the crazy one, the photographer, and me, the driver, a mix of both. And we're a pretty kickass team if I do say so myself.

My gosh, I'm speechless. It seems he truly was an incredible man. I would have loved to have met him. His style of teaching makes so much sense and reminds me of a few of my teachers from high school that I was extremely lucky to know. That part about him collecting quotes is pretty powerful too, especially since you see those quotes in some of your pictures. As you said, it's a complete shame that his house is being left to fall apart. That was once the center for his creative thinking process. Thank you so much for sharing this article!

I REALLY like what you had to say Jac S. I also would of enjoyed meeting this man. He DID make a lot of sense and i can see why his students loved him. So down to earth, and he had a way of letting you know that NO one is perfect and your work didn't have to be perfect... what you created in class was special.

I Appreciate it pj. I think all the really good pieces of art and meaningful belongings are long gone. But, a lot of useful things still remain untouched like paints, art tables, and old books.

What a truly unique place. I really like how he hung those abstracts on the outside of his house. And in #16 how he just hammered nails into the wall haphazardly instead of buying a proper peg board; maybe it shows that here was someone who truly knew what they treasured in life and didn't bother themselves with other trivialities. I don't think there are that many J.D. Salingers in the world... anybody who creates - whether it is in words, or visual art, or music - most likely wants their work to be admired. And in that regard, the surviving family might even be proud to have explorers like you continuing to admire the work here. They'd maybe be proud that someone still cares. And did you notice the issue of 'Archaeology' magazine buried in there? Maybe he harbored a fascination with the discovery of history that we all hold.

I ALWAYS enjoy your observations of a place GS. I too liked the Abstracts on his house. Thats when i first saw the place and had to snap a few shots of them and his yard. Those are long gone now.
I did indeed notice the Archaeology magazine. I think he would have enjoyed exploring. Art is seen in many forms and in many places Thanks for your nice comments!
