Turbines, Maltings and an Urbex Poo

A couple of years back in the depths of winter myself and a group of four others embarked on a very dark foray into Belgium. We seemed to spend most of our time sleeping in the car waiting for there to be enough light to go explore things which was pretty uncomfortable but thats European winter for you. This particular spot we rocked up outside of when it was still completely pitch black. worryingly, illuminated by the lights of the car park for the brand new brewery offices/administration block we had parked up in was a van with 'security' across the side in big letters but we tried to look as inconspicuous as possible and get some sleep.

I managed to get none and by about 7.30am I had numb legs and so went for a little walk in the early morning semi-light and by the time I got back to the car the security van had disappeared so wasting no time we made our entrance. Unfortunately I was also absolutely busting for a poo and had been for some time, so very quickly I made myself scarce and finding some mercifully intact albeit pitch black toilets on the top floor of the power plant I relieved myself much to my own and everyone elses relief!

We carried on exploring the power plant afterwards, a nice little spot with some great machinery to look at.

Now you may have noticed from the first photo that this location was made up of three buildings. I had only ever seen photos from the power plant building and not the other two so my curiousity was piqued. Climbing through a window into the next building I was initially disappointed as it was heavily stripped of everything, but I persevered and got to the upper floors where I was quick to realise the whole lot was still intact! What everyone had obviously dismissed before me as stripped and rubbish turned into a brilliant old brewery.

I make it a rule that I only go if there are literally no other options and it's going to come out whether I want it to or not. So far there are only two locations which are lucky enough to contain my poo, this one and Chateau Lumiere in France although that was more thanks to some dodgy food the night before coupled with a 7 hour car journey...

Haha. It's not like i go around trying to poop in as many abandoned buildings as i can. For some reason, almost every time i go to an explore, it just hits me. (It probably doesn't help that we usually eat like shit during meets.)
It's my exploring curse.

Awesome set!

How long ago did this place close down? It's awesome that much of the machinery and such are still intact.

This part I'm not actually sure about. The much larger and more famous part on the same site was shut down in the middle of the 1990s but sadly by the time I got around to this urban exploration lark it was in the middle of demolition. I wouldnt be surprised if the brewery building here closed down at the same time but I think the power plant was in use until only a few years ago, as it's in much better condition than the rest.
