So they tore down most of it. I seem to recall there being way more in the UE series from 10 or so years ago.

Yea, looks like alot has come down. I dont see the front office building. Which had the lab upstairs, and was my favorite spot. Still a pretty epic location though.

Interesting photos, nice work.

I went there to scout a bit yesterday to find that the front building (which I have ascertained is the Lab) had a small fire on the first floor. Firemen said that it was nothing big but at risk of becoming larger. The whole building was drenched.

Did you access the land from the south, via the service drive? I hear that's a safe bet, but I don't wanna upset the squatters that I hear stay there.

It was on fire yesterday?

And I just park down the road and walk there. If you go in the afternoon, there's usually at least one other group of people (teenagers or photographers) around. I haven't ever seen any squatters or druggies early morning or afternoon when I've gone.

Yeah, it was. Small fire, from the people who were sitting there waiting for the FD to clear out so they could drive past were saying, the FD was only there for 45 minutes or so. Like I said, nothing major.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to go tomorrow. Also, I was reading about a 'mandatory arrest' policy that is in place there, have you heard about this? Though I doubt it's true, I'd like to be prepared as possible.

Will update with images when I can.

Looks pretty similar to the last time I was there a few years back. I really like that shot with the smoke. There's not really all that much to photograph there but you got some good shots.

I remember having more fun out in the brick yard climbing around the furnace remains. Too bad that's all gone.

I'm not expecting to find much, but I want to get a few good shots before it's gone. With the latest fire and the proposed razing of the site in January, it's only a matter of time before the site is no more. I plan to do some light painting, so we'll see how that goes.

Hey, all. Went to Solvay last weekend. Here are some photos I took: https://www.flickr.../72157657877350224

Worth mentioning the amount of activity at that place. Lots of people tagging, hanging out, just driving through. Also worth mentioning that I saw a freakin' deer! But I couldn't pull my camera up quick enough to get a shot. Fun day, all in all. Didn't go into the front (northernmost) building because there were people taking senior photos in there. I don't know. It was a little weird. But fun!

Just took my first trip there the 31st. Place is gutted, but all the tagging makes it an interesting place. Didn't see anyone else, granted it was raining. While I wish it was a little more unknown (then again, if it wasn't as popular as it is I would have never heard of it), I see it as a giant bathroom stall wall for underground of Milwaukee.

It's still worth going. Lots of good photo opportunities, and if you're into climbing stuff, lots of opportunity for that, too. There was recently a pop-up art gallery held there, with a lot of popular Milwaukee artists having some stuff on display in the smaller back building (the one in the original set I posted that was cleared out). Now that I've been a few times, I do plan to head back, if only for a few shots that I missed. Watch out for other folk there though, can never be too sure.

Last time I went, there were teenage girls taking yearbook photos in the front building. Parents were there too. Funny thing was that they looked like they were from a rich suburb like Whitefish Bay or something...totally out of place. One mom was saying things like 'This place ought to be torn down, it's a festering pile of junk for heroin addicts'.
Take from that what you will.

I've got to give it to those girls, they have good taste. As a portrait photographer, I can say that abandoned buildings (especially Solvay, lots of graffiti) make for some pretty wicked senior pictures.

As for the mom, well, not so much.

thanks for giving it a try

Not much left
Going back about 25 years or so ago I splore the Conshohocken Coke Works. A city block long and very intact. A Japanese firm later bought it, dismantled it, and ship most of it to Japan.
I have a 40's chemistry book with a pic of it.
It's fucked up the Japanese can make it profitable but we can't.

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.
