Went and checked out an old gold mine that operated from the 1890s on and off up until the 1980s in the LA mountains between LA and the mojave. Pretty interesting explore ran out of time to explore the whole mine as we got there late. I apologize for the image quality most were taken with a phone and it was really foggy outside so can't really see much outside.

We explored the upper levels pretty thoroughly but ran out of time to go past those stacks of wood on the bottom level as it was getting dark and we parked near the bottom of the mountain range (my car has overheated coming out haha)

Always enjoy mining pics! I actually love the fog shots. Gives the feeling of being lost in time and space. Looks like rugged terrain. Those old miners didn't shy away from difficult locations.

Thanks for sharing!

Awesome pictures! The fog just took them to the next level.

Curious, in picture 4 there was water abouts the ground, was this shot close enough to the entrance to have been from rain pooling or was more of the mine filled? You insinuated there were lower levels which would indicate that the mine was probably not below the water table if the lower levels were explorable, unless this shot was one of the lower levels.

The water comes from within the mine probably seeping through the rocks. There was a small stream flowing from the mine down the mountain and now that I think about it there were some water droplets coming from the ceiling. The mine is at about 7000 feet elevation so I assume there is a decent amount of rain and snow in the winter. Another mine in similar mountains nearby had even more water in it.

I looooove that hike during weather. So other worldly. This was my second mine ever and I still have fun going there. Word of caution. Snow up there will turn to ice during colder months and DEADLY.
