I first stumbled across this interesting hydroelectric/railroad setup years ago while biking around the rural edges of my town. I've returned and photographed it a couple of times since, but on a recent lazy afternoon I decided to go back again. It's not the most complex thing to explore, but it is certainly unique, and is a cool place to take a relaxing, legal stroll.
At this dam, some water flows over the top and along the original stream bed, while the rest is directed into a large wooden pipe.
Just downstream, a lovely railroad trestle passes overhead.

From this dam, the pipe stretches for about half a mile, passing under a road and leading to a second dam. I'm no sure when it was constructed, but the pipe is riddled with leaks (and smells like tar) for its entire length.

The end of the line, where the pipe empties into a large holding basin/dam structure.
This dam has an attached building which is still used and, unfortunately, inaccessible.
The other side of the structure, though, is pretty neat.

Behind and underneath the building, a little tunnel beckons.

After passing through a couple large empty chambers, it leads to the other side. It's so insulated in here that even in early May, ice that has gathered is still inches thick.
And finally, time to go.
