A Well-Worn Village, For What It's Worth

During my trip to NY a few weeks ago, I had this former institution in mind as a backup spot because of its proximity to a planned explore. That being said, considering how well-known this place is, my expectations for the place were not very high. After a fun-filled morning, we found ourselves here with a few hours of daylight to kill, and started poking around. Sure, it's pretty far from immaculate, but it turned out to be a very relaxing Sunday afternoon explore, and a perfect way to wind down the day. In short, I'm glad we took the time to check it out.

Crumbling Greeting

Starting off at the hospital building...

Swings

Stairway

Lonely Desk

Musty Morgue

..We then walked over to the synagogue, which had a surprising small amount of vandalism. The lack of air circulation, though, made the smell especially awful.

Gold, White, and Blue

Mossy Congregation

...Moving on to some dormitories...

Partition

Standout Storage

Rotunda

..And finally, a romp through the (impressively large) power plant.

Monolithic

Bedframes

A Lesson From Prince

Industry

A Very Narrow Staircase

Afternoon Light

I simply adore the Letch. Fan-fucking-tastic job capturing some of it's more "interesting" qualities!

Agree with Ed. Elitist pricks rag on it but having been there consistently over the past 17 years it's, well, basically the same. And as for people thinking they're too badass for this spot, I haven't seen any new pics of the hospital next to the middle school for *years*. We've got members climbing NYC bridges successfully but that middle school's top rent a cop is on a mission or something.

Great set man, lots of good photos in here. I enjoy this place from time to time. As Ineedattention.com pointed out, there are still plenty of interesting buildings nobody ever goes to. Hell, some of them don't even have a single tag.

That power plant! I guess I never looked into this one to much. I assumed it was beyond trashed. However this post changed my mind! I think I am going to add this to my list to explore this summer since I will be down in that area anyways.

Wow, that picture is great.....I did see some nicer-looking buildings, but we pretty much focused on the central part of the campus. I guess I shouldn't write off a re-visit .

Yeah man, if you're in the area and have time go for it! There are plenty of places in better shape, but for how relaxing this one is to explore, it's really not bad. I thought it was going to be a bunch of hollowed-out shells, and I was pleasantly surprised (and apparently, there are some nice parts that I totally missed).

Very cool pictures, that power plant looks awesome! I think I'd enjoy spending time in there the most. I'll have to find something similar, or perhaps by the time I'm in the neighborhood it will still be explorable

I heard this place is in what is now a public park? Similar to Kings Park Psych Center. Is this the case?

I believe so, but I am not 100% sure. When I went once, I saw people leisurely walking around.

Yep, there were a few other people walking their dogs and just strolling around. I'm not sure about the area by the power plant, but we weren't very stealthy there and no one bothered us.

The Letch has always been a fave for me through the years. Enjoyed your photos and how you translate the place between vivid and softer tones. Good example is the richness of the stairway, then the softness of the lonely desk...that pic is my fave!

I was there in winter and there was a pickup plowing all the paths and a few dog walkers. I waved at them and then walked into a building. I think it's all public and safe to say stealth isn't necessary.

The only place you'll have an issue at is the Power Plant, and that's very rare. The entire area is open to walk around in. There are patrols after dark occasionally so it is much better to go while the sun is still shining.
