I went camping at mount sheer many years ago. This is the old town site above Britannia bay where the mining occurred. There is, or at least there was back then. minimal part of the mill still standing, some mechanical equipment. if you look at the right place, you will find the old swimming pool (which was heated back then with the water used to cool the compressor for the mine)the old baseball diamond. and you can also find the remains old houses if you know where to look. those are the one the Chinese immigrant were living in. Most houses were torn down long ago to keep hippies from moving in. also on the way up you'll see where the cable car used to be.
My step dad and his best friend are born and raised up there.... i had good guides. to show me around.
the cabin you talking about exist, its simply a very small back country cabin, it sees a decent amount of people going to it. here is a picture
