I recently visited Asheville (I'm from Atlanta) and i instantly fell in love with the River Arts District, as there are many abandoned (and not so abandoned) places. it was wonderful. do you guys know much about some of places i went? an old stoneworks, part of it was still active but i was able to go into the overgrown part(?), an abandoned arson department(?), large silos near some train tracks and Norfolk Southern roundhouse (I'm developing that roll soon.)

Hahaha... you were within walking distance of where I live. I haven't gotten into the part of the stoneworks place you're talking about yet either, although I don't think it's actually active. Looks like it's used for storage. That building is scheduled for demo I believe. I think the silos in your 4th pic are some of the few remaining structures from the Chesterfield Mill. As is the power plant, why'd you skip that? Also, what's an abandoned arson department? lol. I have an idea of the location you could be talking about but it's not in RAD.

sorry, the arson department isnt in RAD. it is about 2 blocks away from the main entrance to UNC Asheville. and unfortunately i didnt find out about RAD until my last day and just tried to hit as much as i could. i ended up spending awhile in the overgrown part of the stoneworks building because i love overgrown buildings more than anything. as for the power plant, i wish i could've gone, but ill definitely be back to Asheville!! I spent a pretty good amount of time in the Norfolk roundhouse while it was very active and manages to not get caught which is good. you live in a beautiful place!


edit: "Asheville Fire Department Harley Shuford Building- Asheville Buncombe Arson Task Force" is what the sign read outside of the fire dept building.

Yeah Asheville is nice. Props on doing the roundhouse, it can be tricky. It was eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Here's the assessment if you're interested. Local preservation society tried to stop the demo but, obviously, they were no successful.

thanks! i read it over, glad they didnt get to tear it down too much! it was definitely really cool especially because i love train sites so much. hopefully i can get back to Asheville soon!
