Was this inevitable? Locations for sale.

I came across this today and I find myself rather upset about it. I do NOT own this page, nor do I profit from it in any way. This is not spam.

http://ue4sale.com/

In todays increasingly commercial environment do you think this was inevitable? I for the record think this is wrong. From the website itself:

"Why buy locations?
The urban exploration scene, especially if you do not have plenty of experienced friends, can be a tough one to find new places to visit. Our list is the biggest and cheapest instantly available online."

The 'trusted' system here at least makes an effort to weed out the unethical people who look for locations here to scrap, trash, burn down etc, but this commercial website puts the almighty dollar (or Euro in this case) above the idea of keeping a site secret in an effort to protect it from harm. One finds location be doing a little research and driving or walking around, or by finding or making friends to explore with.

So, what are your thoughts?

Sooooo what your buying is the coordinates for each location... Ya I don't see this being a good idea in anyway.

That's some bullshit right there. These are the kinds of people who make the Urban Exploration community look bad.

Whats funny is this person includes the actual name of the locations on that page. So anyone can easily find the location themselves through a Google search without giving this site money. Not the smartest person ever.

That makes no sense...similar to someone here in Atlanta who wanted to charge people to take them to locations and roof tops.

Well, no matter what, one thing's for sure...

If anyone ever finds out you've bought (or sold) location coordinates from these guys, your credibility's shot. Nobody's going to trust someone who puts profit over preservation with their locations.

As it stands, no serious urbexer would be caught dead doing business with that site.

Although it is upsetting, at least they won't get anything from the actual urban explorers, only bad locations from unethical wannabees. I don't forsee them getting any pristine locations, only those that have been trashed already.

Hit the nail on the head. With the secrecy surrounding locations nowadays due to people wanting to avoid the urbex tourbus rocking up outside them it's no surprise that people - and this isn't the first person to do so - will be willing to sell locations to desperate idiots. It's a big problem in mainland Europe where the secrecy over certain locations means even me, as a well-travelled and trusted explorer don't even stand a chance of getting them. And I'm OK with that, as I totally get why they are so secretive.

I don't know if the 'urbex tourbus' is such a big an issue in the USA as it is in Europe, as the USA is a lot lot bigger so it must be harder for 15 million explorers to all descend on a single location at once.

Its a big deal in the US but done differently. Look up "A Day in the D" which is basically luxury bus tours of abandoned buildings and slums.

We had one person doing something similar in Korea but they were shamed out of existence.

It's insane. I tried to contact the hosting service of this website, asking to take it down with a little story, still waiting for a response.

As mookster said, urbex is going batshit insane here in Europe. Every month a new building hits the shelves, gets whored out until it's either locked up by owners and police who are going insane by the amount of traffic, or vandalised. Last few buildings I've been there were always 4 or more people inside. Kind of ruins the experience to be honest, back in the days I would feel like the last man on earth inside an abandonment, now it's just Urbex-Con everywhere.

What I've found is that there are a large number of Belgians in particular who really try and keep these locations safe and well and away from the 'urbex tour bus masses' - but every so often one site will get leaked or find it's way into the wider community and suddenly everybody will descend on it at once which only ever results in it being destroyed or sealed up much quicker than it would normally and as such it then deprives others the chance of seeing locations.

It's a losing battle these people are fighting because with the power of the internet nothing is totally secret forever.

Here in the UK there are a few large groups of explorers who travel to the mainland en masse and go into small locations 10, 11, 12-strong which is ridiculous, the Belgians don't like it and it gives the people like me who much prefer the company of one or two others a bad name over there because the most hardcore of them believe it's us that are ruining it for them. I keep myself pretty off the radar in person, I've never been part of an 'urbex crew' (I find the word 'crew' hilarious especially when the members all have matching hoodies) and explore with only a few select people and never all at once partly due to simple logistics of people working etc.

I try and steer clear of the 'rush' as much as possible, and do my own thing - I've even brought locations that haven't been explored for 3 or 4 years to peoples attention again by doing actual 'exploring' instead of blindly following wherever everyone is going at that point in time.

Who the hell did that?! Rooftops aren't exactly difficult and the second photos are posted, you know it's accessible.

"We recommend to verify the state of any location before making an order."

So you mean, look the site up online to see if it's still there - and most likely find coordinates or an address - For FREE? GREAT IDEA!
