Suggestions On My Pictures

So I just wanted to get a couple ideas and opinions on some of my favorite photos that I've taken, unfortunately I don't have a DSLR but I plan on getting one, so these pictures vary from cellphone cameras to point and shoots. But the main thing I would like to know about is the composition of my pictures.

I've posted all these pictures before but never got any input on them so I'm hoping I will here.

Not bad at all. The important part is to keep working on composition with whatever camera you have at hand. Yeah, so you might not be able to blow them up wall size with your point-and-shoot or you cell phone, but developing your technique will help tons when you land your DSLR.

It sounds silly, but you should critique every photo you take. If you like it, decide exactly why. If you don't like it, why? Knowing why a photo looks good to you will help you take more good pictures and fewer "eh" pics.

Oh yeah, if you are using your smart phone, there are some pretty amazing apps out there for pictures as well as video. You might want to google search to see what you can find.

1. If this one is an HDR or a bracket/blend, it's very well done. Composition-wise, I wish it got the bottom frame of the door. Not sure how much room you had in there, though I get the feeling there's a long hallway behind you. Otherwise this picture is the strongest of the bunch.

2. The composition of this one is very messy. I'm guessing you were trying to obey the rule of thirds but it didn't work. This would've been best if you centered the stairs and shot it vertically to remove the wasted space on the sides.

3. The windows are blown out; if you'd done with them what you did in photo 1, this would be way better. I think also the door in the way on the right is a bit distracting. I would've liked to see more of the table.

4. I like the lighting. You could've gotten the person in the shot to pose better or something, but it is effective at giving kind of a ridealong effect and obscures his face. For this shot to work better, you'd need the vertical lines to be parallel. Normally you could use transform>skew to tug at the corners, but not with a human in the picture. Try always to keep your camera lens parallel with the ground. To capture him properly, you'd probably have to lower the camera or crouch.

5. The pole near you is distracting rather than adding something. If you'd composed it with that sign better, it might have made sense. But if you took a step or two closer and leaned against the pole, you would've gotten a better picture of your intended subject. Personally if it were me, I would've gone and stood in the centerline of the road and shot along that.

I love picture 3, I think the other one would look better in colour. I also think you should get a special effect filter lense it would make the light in the last one look like stars. That would be pretty cool.
