~ Where Waters Still Flows ~

I've drive past this place few years ago. I did notice that there might have been abandoned buildings, but I couldn't be sure and there were no time on that day. It did always feel that it were bit too far to reach, especially if there wouldn't be anything to see. Few weeks ago I did see photos from there and... then it was clear: I have to get there soon, and I did. So here we go with first location...

Spring Time at the River:

Let Water Flow (Through the Ancient Stone Dam):

Green and White:

Rust from the Past:

Ancient Mill:

In the Mill, Second Floor:

That old mill were small and in real bad condition. I did leave it and head to upstream... where were another dam and old sawmill.

Endless Flow:

Downstairs:

On the Stone Wall:

First I did think that I would head to that latest find, there might be another dam and hydro power plant just 1-2 kilometers away, but I'm not sure if it still is in use. But then I did notice that I were quite near to this twice photographed mill... so I did get there instead.

I did also meet two old age locals there. Both did ask first am I filming a movie there. I did tell what I've been doing for over decade and with both I did talk long from other things too. They were good actors or then they did really appreciate this photographing thing.

That movie question did get answer too; local rumours have told that mill will be used filming movie or tv-series at next summer. I were quite amazed because with my knowledge that place is true death trap. Now my greatest fear now is that it would be something to do with Duudsons - they already did explode one chimney from almost only abandoned factory in my hometown. I'll appreciate their attitude, but destroying abandoned places goes over my head. But who knows and time will tell. Maybe it will be some ordinary production. At least I wish it is.

The Road:

River and the Mill:

Electric Past:

Colours:

Pipes:

Before Facebook:

Visual Machinery Art:

Spring Day's Light:

Man with the Box at the Top were Scared (and so were I - that place it's in much more worst condition than these pictures tell):

Great Dam:

Last View:

-----

And then there were only one thing left to show: traditional off-topic-bonus-photo! And because now it's spring... air is getting warmer, sun shines, birds sing, love is in the air and so on, I will get romantic and serve something sweet. One guy did tell me that there is dead fox at the side of the road not too far from here. Actually it have been there since last autumn. He did also ask "you photograph that kind of things?" and well... I think I do. So here we go with dead fox. Rest in peace. I will try to document how it progress.

To the next time, folks!

Those are all amazing, especially the water shots. How long do you set your exposure for them? Any clue how old the buildings are?

Excellent stuff!! The water shots in particular are truly breathtaking!! As usual with your shots it is difficult to pick a favorite. But I think Great Dam is the winner of this set.

I love your images with the gentle blend of nature and human architecture with the decay. So beautiful.

Thanks. I'll think that exposures were around 1 second, sun was shining so bright right at morning. But these are again hdr pictures, so every photo is combination of 2 or 3 photos. And what comes age of those buildings... That first mill I'm not sure, that sawmill have probably been last used maybe at '90s. That last mill were used at '50s, so did locals tell me.

Thank you very much! ^^ And what comes to that running fox, I did notice same too; must try to get bit different composition at next time, maybe it would look even more like running.

Me too, there is something sooo fascinating in that combination. And answer is yes: Kenko Pro ND8. But I still think exposures could have been bit longer, or at least I would like to try them, but there were way too much light. Have to get back there next autumn... and summer of course. And maybe even winter. Damned, I'm hooked.

You can believe that I'm already waiting next trip to that first place. Different light, summer green, autumn's colours, winter...

Great long exposure shots on the waterfalls. Have you ever used a neutral density filter?

No. I don't actually have nothing else than that one (dark) filter and I wouldn't have even that if I wouldn't win one competition. Those seem to be so god damned high price stuff... but maybe someday.
