Carribean Exploring, a hotel and a cave

Over the past couple of weeks I've been traveling around Belize and Guatemala. Before I left, I did a little research about possible abandonments around the areas I'd be traveling to and I came across this hotel. It was constructed 10-15 years ago near the split on Caye Caulker which is located near the Belize Barrier Reef. The rumor has it that construction was halted when a massive underwater cave system was discovered under the island and the ground was determined to be unstable. Over the years, divers have been exploring the cave more and more as diving gear has improved, but it is still incredibly dangerous. This video shows a bit of what the cave is like under the island: http://www.youtube...atch?v=YZoyHGFpa7Q

1. I never met the owners, but apparently they are pretty chill

2. I love shooting on full moon nights

3. Looking towards the mainland

4. I returned a few nights later and the moon was dimmer, but there were many more sailboats moored off shore.

Also, sandals are not impervious to nails and should not be worn exploring, even in the tropics, lol

5. Bonus Belizian cave

Tropical abandonments!! It really doesn't get much better than that! I especially like the sign in the first picture. If only more people took such a laid back approach to people exploring their abandoned property

My two favorite things - tropical places and abandonments!! Awesome!

Do you have any more pictures of the hotel? I'd love to see them!

I really only took pics from the top floor since it had the best view and light from the moon. I didn't bring my tripod out this night, so it was kind of a pain to set up shots too. Here's an alternate view of the room in the first pic though:

Yeah! I love using a full moon as a primary light source. The rest of the island was pretty dark which made for pretty surreal pics. Here's one from the split:
