Yeah 45,000 is weak compared to that, but suppose its relative to comparison the low power antenna pic I posted operated at just 400 watts. Ive also seen a few vhf stations at just 5 watts.

I was just being funny. Nothing broadcasts at 500,000 watts, except maybe for a pulsar or something.

Alright, scouted the location, my verdict is that I WILL be climbing this ladder at this point, I'm going to be looking into a harness next for me as well as my buddy.
Two pictures from the site.

Final thoughts anyone?

Haha, not sure if I should, considering it, going to need some questions to ask first.

AM is not allowed to broadcast that high, but uhf dtv stations can be and are licensed up to 1000kw.

Personally I'd hate to get the power bill for any of those stations.

Also, if you get caught, the government tends to get a bit touchy about people mucking around on their communications infrastructure. As in, "You're under arrest for potential terrorism" touchy, from what I've heard.

This, in my opinion it is not worth it.

You've received confirmation that this tower is relatively harmless then?

It's pretty hard to get caught at most transmitter sites. They're generally out in the middle of nowhere in the woods. I wouldn't worry about that. It's the radiation I would focus on.

Yeah, the site is near a minor road, in the suburbs. But as far as getting seen goes, I don't need to worry.

Radiation is my utmost concern, who knows, I might want to have kids someday . I'm not going to attempt climbing until I'm very certain I know the exact risks. Definitely not rushing into this one.

Not entirely, the only real confirmation. Is that the only warning sign posted at the base, for climbers, says to keep at-least 3 feet of clearance from antennas. That gives me the assumption that the antennas are not going to instantly fry me.
