So the cold has kept me inside for the most part since December but I finally got out again today and took a nice drive to a location I've been meaning to see for a long time. I'd heard bad things about the place (video cameras everywhere) but it actually turned out to be a cakewalk. There are a few cameras in select locations and a previous visit there last summer produced nothing but me hiding in the woods for twenty minutes waiting for the cops to leave after I opened a door under one.

Glad I finally got there but a little disappointed it wasn't as nice as I had expected. Didn't have time to see a whole lot, but I'll be back there soon. Some bunch of twatwaffles calling themselves b-unit (or something similarly retarded) and claiming to be from Tiverton RI have already tagged the place up pretty good. Even inside some of the newer buildings that appeared to be sealed up pretty tight. Thanks a lot assholes !

A few pics from today. Hope you enjoy
Sorry about the crappy looking pics. The forum resizes them and makes them look horrible. Can't be bothered making them all smaller just for this site, but hope to have the whole set up on Flickr tomorrow.

Nice, i like the last pic num 9, just seeing the row of houses all falling apart.
Also about the resize thing might be better to use a 3rd party host like Flickr and just link the photos, you have more control on the size and quality

If anyone else knows this place (if not pm me and I'll tell you where it is), I just learned on my last visit that it is actually open to the public from dawn to dusk just like almost every other abandoned state institution. So why was I getting thrown out over and over the past few years?? The rumor I heard was that the "Keep everyone out" policy was not the state's doing at all but merely the security company watching the place at the time. Apparently while one guard was patrolling the grounds keeping everyone out his partner was inside collecting copper. Can't guarantee the accuracy of that rumor, but that's what I heard and that security company is obviously gone now, from this location and several others. As long as you're not causing any trouble or doing anything stupid you can walk around all you want.

Previously if you wanted to wander the grounds and not be thrown out all you had to do was sign in with security at the main gate.

Damn - everyone I've ever known who went there was asked to leave by security. Usually my first recon of a place is to walk in like I own it and see what happens. Should have tried that first, but after all the horror stories I'd heard about this place I skipped over that step and went right to sneak in through the thorn bushes!!

Be careful. I used to be a security guard at the Shutter Island hospital and the best part of being a guard is fucking with people who are acting dumb. Security is there for a reason and this place is very hit or miss. If they see you messing around you will have a wonderful run in with the state police. Until recently this was the most untouched campus left in MA.

I recall some pics of the place that you posted somewhere a few years back and even though it's been tagged up the past few years, I think it's still the best kept in MA.

Speaking of Shutter Island . . . . . for anyone who didn't know. Like almost all these locations, it's no longer owned by the state. The city now owns it and has plans to demo all the buildings and build a nice park. The state is currently remediating and cleaning out the buildings. Madison Security is gone, every few hours a town cop drives through but he just smiles and waves. A lot of the buildings are open and no one seems to be fixing the holes anymore. Not much left to see there but if it's on your "to-see list" you're probably running out of time. All the newer buildings are cleaned out now but the older buildings that they won't go into are still kinda cool. Unfortunately some of the buildings there even I won't go into anymore.

A buddy of mine who lives nearby told me he recently attended a town meeting where they appropriated a lot of money to secure the place. Fences, new security company, video cameras etc. Makes no sense to me why a town would spend money securing buildings they plan to tear down . . . .

A few from a recent trip there . . .
Got in and turned on my camera just to see "No card in camera" Yup - left them all at home. Damn I can be a jackass, luckily I had the old backup camera with me so quality of the pics is not so good.

Well its a good thing you got in there when you did. Just got back from Shutter Island and they went crazy boarding the fuck out of every single door or possible POE.

I'd have to agree with Frosty, #9 is probably my favorite, really cool photograph with them all in a row like that. And the tiled hall in the second image set is really interesting, almost looks out of place because of it's relative cleanliness and symmetry. Nice photos

If you know this location, and this building, do not go in. It is now alarmed by the local pd. Stopped by yesterday and knew as soon as I walked in there that something just wasn't right. Sure enough, six minutes later the local police came in, and they came in fast. Luckily, there is still a subterranean exit.

Apparently the miners are hitting this building pretty hard which has started a feud between the security company contracted by the state and the local donut eaters, who obviously want the contract. They can and will enter the campus and any building on it.

Still had a fun day there after the donut squad left. I'll post some pics later.

Latest rumor I hear is that the local police have a warrant for the arrest of at least one individual suspected of stealing copper from this building as a result of images captured via hidden camera in the building. I guess all those donut breaks finally paid off. I should probably consider myself lucky they didn't come knocking on my door. Still a place to be very careful.
