Showtime Network on cable is about to premiere something like this.

Makes you wonder what other stuff like this is out there buried. I know TONS and TONS of old tv shows and movies had their reels and film dumped into rivers and bays in different cities, sadly I'm pretty sure all of this is beyond salvageable.

He's probably referring to the oft-repeated story that says that ABC television dumped all of DuMont Television's kinescopes in the East River after acquiring DuMont's assets in the 1970s. Apparently, the ultimate source for this story is the testimony of Edie Adams (wife of DuMont star Ernie Kovacs) before the Library of Congress in 1996 (where she actually stated that they were dumped in Upper New York Bay) and not anyone who worked at DuMont or ABC.

I've heard this story for years. I've never heard of anything similar happening anywhere else, but it wouldn't surprise me if it had.

I'd have to dig up the sources again but I remember stories of this happening in the UK some places. It might have been tied into one of the many "Missing Doctor Who Episode" stories.

I'd like to see all of Apple's Lisas that were buried in the desert get dug up. At least those would be worth something compared to a million copies of ET.

You peaked my curiosity.

The dig site was about 1000 yards from my house. I have heard rumors for years that a couple of hundred of the games and 4 or 5 of the headsets were dug up by enterprising local youths in a daring tunnel plan 6 months after burial.

There's a YouTube documentary about this. It covers the search and digging up. People came from all over North America to witness it. Not sure how rare this was but I clearly remember playing E.T. on the 2600 at my cousins. It was awful.

Is it on YouTube? Cause I can't find it on Netflix or anywhere else for that matter.
