If a spritz of this shit stops a 700 pound Grizzly, imagine the fun you can have soaking down a crackhead!

Bowie knife on my hip, ASP baton in my jacket inner pocket. Accessible to opposite hands, since my camera is usually in one or the other.

Thinking about getting a can of bear spray since i've just moved to an area that has them.

Check out the legalities of it for your area (weirdly some places don't allow pepper spray) and see if you can get UDAP brand bear spray. It's what pretty much everyone including state troopers and fish and game carry up here in AK. Mean stuff, one of the hottest sprays on the planet btw.

Coming from a guy that used to sell firearms/sporting goods and lives in big bear country, I've never heard of that brand. Could be an east coast thing. YMMV but just my .02.

Either way though, bear spray is something you won't forget lol. Its worse than CS by a lot, at least to my experience. Had a marine buddy of mine curled up in a ball screaming vs CS just turned him into a puffy eyed snot and drool monster.

BIG THING FOR BOTH POSTS:
You can kill someone with pepper spray by accident with severe inhalation or allergic reaction. Retreat is still the preferred method, but use it if it'll save your ass. Just be prepared to potentially need to call the police/EMT's for the worst case.

"Frontiersman" is made by Sabre, a (mainly) pepper spray manufacturer located in Missouri.

While looking through their product line, I fell in love with this!

In my home state of Pennsylvania, every form of pepper spray is legal to everyone.

Chances are pretty good that if some fuckwad tries to criminally take my shit and I have to soak his ass down with some Grizzly spray and he "happens" to need medical attention, it'll be for when he's getting his ribs kicked in with some steel-toed waffle stompers. Serves a thieving bitch right, in my humble summation.
Fuck the fucking fucker.

Doesn't work on some. If you carry it you better do what LEOs do when training to carry it; use it on yourself. Chances are sooner or later if you deployed it, you'll end up eating it too. If you're incapacitated by it, it's worthless! By the way benadryl will negate it's effects quite effectively; it's an antihistamine.

Beyond that anyone with a high tolerance to pain or is wombat crazy can work through it. As can someone knows it can't hurt them, is pissed off, and hell bent on killing...

I gotta agree. If a situation escalates to the point I have to defend myself using drastic measures such as pepper spray and the perp needs medical attention.....well, who am I to stand in the way of Darwins work?

I have a little mace I bring with me, but I bring it everywhere not just exploring. I also have a pocket knife but I can't imagine I would use it in a self defense situation. If someone dangerous tried to rob me they would probably just get my stuff. If they attacked me I would be more likely to try and get away than knife fight it out.
