What's That Smell?

A couple of weekends ago, I explored an abandoned factory in Cleveland which I've already created a thread on. I happened to park across the street from an abandoned house, which I wandered into once I was done at the factory. In order to reduce the risk of bumping into undesirable people, I usually don't enter abandoned houses in major cities but this one kind of grabbed my attention for some reason. The yard was covered in several inches of snow undisturbed by footprints so I figured it would probably be alright. What I found was undoubtedly the most foul-smelling building I've ever entered. I don't think an inch of the floor was visible under all the junk strewn everywhere. Due to the smell and the interior being too narrow to get many good pictures, I simply did a quick run through of the house and grabbed a few quick pictures before leaving.

Sometimes, I see abandoned houses and I think... Aww, that place was probably sweet in its day. Not this one.

Also I thought there was a dog in #3. O.o

I'm glad you braved the bad air to check it out and share with us. Did you find evidence of why it smelled so bad, even in the cold? One of the last houses I was in had the entire kitchen sink full of raccoon shit from which and pretty spectacular mold was growing.

Funny you mention that looking like a dog in #3. My sister said the same thing. As far as the smell, I didn't see anything but I was in and out so fast it would have been easy to miss something. Whatever it was, it was definitely on the first floor. The second floor and basement didn't smell as bad.

I also thought that was a dog in number 3.

I really like seeing old houses like this. For some reason, this stuff is creepy to me.

Ha! Glad I'm not the only one, and it wasn't just a side-effect of using UER as an excuse to look at photos on my phone and prolong not-outside-of-covers-time as long as possible >.>

And likewise, Clockwork. They are my favourite. Probably partially owing to there not being a lot else in Iowa, but there's a special appeal about former homes. The broken off end of someone's life, rotting away.

Totally with you guys on the old houses. My favorites in particular are the 1800s-era farmhouses with all the neat architecture. I'm not too into the inner city ones because I'm always afraid I'm going to find a dead body or walk into a crackhouse. But I will never pass up a rural abandoned farmhouse.

I'm very hopeful that we can get more easterly soon, maybe this spring or summer. The Ohio area looks rife with fun things... if my partner and I can make that happen, we should hang out!

That bar! I've been in the market for one like that. And here people are just letting them rot away. Damn them!

For sure! PM me if you're going to be out this way and we'll make it happen. No shortage of places we could visit.

It does look like a deformed dog in #3. Kinda creepy... But exploring old houses can be amazing, people leave behind the strangest things like photo albums and other keepsakes.

Man, I swear my sister had a teddy bear identical to that when we were growing up. I've explored a few houses, but honestly, I tend to stay away from them because most of the ones I've encountered are pretty much the same. Completely covered in trash and smelling horrid.Hope you had fun at the factory though!

This is the biggest reason why I explore houses. Finding things like that can make an explore for me.

Yeah, I don't do many city houses because most of them are nasty (or end up being grow houses like the one I wandered into in Columbus). This one was right across from where I parked so I figured why not? I enjoy the rural farmhouses a lot more. A lot less people messing with them. The factory was five floors of amazing. There's a thread of it floating around somewhere. I believe I titled it "The Fiddler Plays When No One Listens."

I hunt for industrial like factories and warehouses but a house like that is a great find. They are like a time hop into the past.
