I took this this past Saturday night. The Aurora Borealis was strong that night and was actually able to capture some of it in Northern NY.

This photo took about 3 hours to take and about 5 hours worth of editing.

Enjoy.

Amazing shot, though I wonder, what was the editing that took so long?

It was about 300 images to create that photo. Guess how many of those 300 had satellites and airplanes going through them.

My son is really into astronomy and looking at your photo last night was his first introduction to the 'rotation of the stars'. He left the computer deep in thought.

Ahh, that would be tricky, but it turned out great! I had stupidly assumed it was just a single long exposure shot. >_<
Keep up the great work!

Polaris!!

I'm not a photographer, but if I was ever to get myself a good camera & a tripod it would be to experiment with something like this. I've taken lots of celestial shots, just not with a camera.

No worries and thanks man. I want to do a series of these and then lots of Milky Way shots this summer. I finally could afford the proper gear to do the kind of photography that I like.

Wow, well done. I love photos like this. At some point I'd like to learn enough to give it a try at our Killarney camp (no light pollution and a million stars in the sky).

As in Ireland or Canada? Super jealous either way...i've never been. If you are talking Canada, have you ever seen the northern lights there?

I do and I'm bugged because it sounds like it's a picture of some sweet star trails and those are my jam but I can't see the image!
