MSP Underground Creek

This weekend I decided to check out one of MSP's ----edited---- underground creeks. This was originally a surface creek, but was buried in stages between the 1890s and 1930s and now functions as a storm drain. It was much larger and varied than the previous drain I explored and despite outside temperatures near 0, not too cold. Though upon completion, I could feel my partially wet pants actively freeze in the short walk from the entrance to my car. I was only able to explore a small portion of the drain and will definitely return.

1. Frozen water near the entrance

2. Limestone walls with vaulted brick ceiling

3 Vaulted Brick Ceiling

4. Ice along a wall

5. Wall Stains

6. Tunnel Split

7. Wall flowstone detail

8. Ceiling Manhole

9. Broken Brick floor pipe

10. Pillars at the start of the newer concrete section

The next section was really steamy making it hard to see and photograph at times. There was a ton of graffiti, but it was overall really well done and made the storm drain more interesting. I had to admire the graffiti artists who worked in these pitch-dark, wet, and steamy conditions on pictures that very few people will ever see. I dub it the "World's Darkest and Steamiest Art Gallery"

11. Skull

12. Graffiti 2

13. Cigarette Cowboy

14. Graffiti 4

15. Woman Portrait

16. Graffiti Detail

17. Martini Glass

18. Monster

19. Half Frozen Ceiling Waterfall

20. Rusty steps

21. Flowstone on limestone wall

22. Inside a small side pipe

23.Wall Water Spout

24.Black and White Wall Stains

25. Tri Color flowstone/wall stains

26. Floor bricks detail in one of the few shallow areas

I have a ton more pictures. You can check out the rest here https://www.flickr...72157648770258984/

Let me know what you think

Looks like one rad underground creek!
Winter makes for great drain-ice formations. One reason why i love visiting your drains during the winter! Haven't seen this one in person before, though.

Thanks for the comments.

On a side note, I tried to be subtle with the exact location of my pictures (no outside/entry point pics, not mentioning the exact city, etc...), but I'm sure many of the long time MSP explorers know where I was based on my pictures or vague description. My question is whether I was subtle enough, if not what should I change? I'm new here and want to share my adventures, but don't want to step on any toes and/or attract undue attention to a location by the media or authorities. I would appreciate the opinion of a veteran MSP explorer. Thanks

For my part, I think you're doing a perfectly fine job. A few details to set the stage and then a selection of interior shots showing off some of the details. Enough that someone familiar with the site knows where you are and what you're doing, not drawing attention to anything, while giving those who might not know of it something to look for.

Jolly good show, I say, and welcome to UER!

Have you not seen it because the eye patch obscured your vision? Or did said eye patch keep going in the first place?

Um.. Maybe i have then.. I don't recognize anything from the pictures, though. The cig-dude graff looks familiar, but i can't place where i may have seen it.

Also, i don't quite get the second part of your comment.. Heh.

Yeah. Turns out that when I proof read only for spelling errors I miss things like missing words. Go me! Anyway, the second part was supposed to be "Or did said eye patch keep you from going in the first place?" Opening night was at this location (up stream), but it occurred to me that you might have skipped going due to shrapnel in your eye from the previous night.

Speaking of up stream, Herm, if you go up stream next time, your pants won't get wet and you'll see all the graffiti you could ever want, and then a bunch more.

Thanks for the info xRedx. Going up stream is definitely the goal next time. I'm usually not a fan of graffiti, but since it was mostly well done, broke up the monotony of bare concrete tunnels, and the unique location, I didn't mind this time. From what I've heard of that particular drain, I'm sure I'll return many times. If anyone wants to join me, let me know.

I agree with NotBatman, you did a great job. You didn't give all the info away, but you shared some great shots of a well loved MSP place. Welcome to UER! Also, Red is right, there's some great graffiti there if you follow her directions :]
