My First Drain

Over the weekend, I explored my first drain along the Mississippi River in the MSP metro area of MN. I was planning on going alone, but ended up meeting a fellow UER explorer as I was entering, who had been there before and was very helpful. It was quite the fun trip and I'm sure the first of many other drains. I'm open to company if any local MSP explorer wants to join me in the future.

Usually when this happens, I fix the errors and post the pictures in my reply.

The post above is beyond repair.

What it looks like has happened here is you've selected the wrong type of link in Flickr's 'helpful' sharing option. I mean, it is helpful, sometimes you just have to fiddle with it a little. Make sure, when you click the little arrow and pull up the code it generates for you, that you select 'BBCode' instead of HTML or Link, because that way it will use the forum's internal syntax. Also, previewing the post is essential for fixing stuff. I don't think I've ever just pulled the trigger and been happy with the post cause I make a lot of dumb mistakes no matter what I do.

PS you will also have the option to select the display size that gets posted through to this forum, and you'll probably want to select something larger than what appears to have been selected here, which would be a very small thumbnail. Don't pick one that's too crazy huge because it will distort the forum layout when it's being viewed. I usually use the upper end of medium or the lower end of large; try a couple out with the preview function and see what you like the look of on the UER forum.

Mmm, brick. Looks like a decent little CSO to pop your drain-cherry.

Look at that unspoiled brick! Sadly, that is getting to be a rarity around here.
Nice shots. I particularly liked the ice crystals. Welcome!

I've always wanted to go into a drain but I have the irrational fear of getting trapped down there. Either way, great photos and looks like a fun exploration!

There are plenty of drains that don't require going down a manhole or ladder and you can walk right into; no climbing. This one didn't have anything to potentially be trapped in. Look online for the storm drains in your area, most exit into a lake or river, which can be your entrance. A lot of the public works departments publish annual reports or inventories which may include useful info.
