I never had anyone with me as I don't know anyone in my area that wants to go, this might change in two weeks, but in general I let someone know where I am, I also bring my ham radio, as with that I can in general reach the local repeater even when my cell doesn't has a bar.

And in many cases I just park in front of it, so at some point people might wonder why a vehicle is parked there.

I would show you a parked on front picture but that seems to now working right now.

Barring my first time a few years back I've gone alone to almost 100 locations. I've got a buddy I've been rooftopping with a few times.

Not to sound like Sam Fisher or anything but I'm pretty confident and comfortable in my own abilities. I don't want to stop solo exploration to have to adjust to people's comfort levels in situations.

Life is no fun without a good scare which is why solo exploration is so fun.

Doing it with other people is just as enjoyable, and usually smart/safe.

I am pretty mixed on this one. I definitely love the dynamic of exploring with a team that I know well. With good planning and communication a large expedition can be done really well. Pretty much every member of my team knows what they're doing and how to handle themselves, none of them are reckless.

And yet at the same I really love scouting out places alone. Going solo really helps me know that if I have security or police showing up I can properly handle the situation. Adding team mates, or at least members who you don't really know yet, can make a bad situation much worse.

So I say go with friends, but only if you're confident that they can handle exploring.

I don't think I could ever go alone. The closest I've gotten to a solo explore is taking exterior pictures at two hospitals, both right outside windows and far away. Plenty of cops drove by me at both places, but none of them even did as much as slow down. I made it a point for anyone to drive by to think, "He's just a photographer." I guess it worked.

As far as actually doing an explore alone, it freaks me out too much. I've been doing this for three years now, and I still haven't gotten over the spooky factor at some places. The more recent it's been abandoned, the more adventurous I get. Say an office building recently got vacated and is just sitting there. I'll be much more apt to exploring an entire floor by myself with friends elsewhere in the building, compared to if this place was abandoned for decades.

I think it's a combination of the threat of people and the threat of natural deterioration.

I definitely know what you mean about the fear factor DundahMifflin. Honestly to me that's one of the reasons why I love doing solo. It's a huge adrenalin rush to know that it's just yourself all alone in a creepy abandoned building. But then again I'm the kind of guy who loves sky diving, base jumping and racing, so results not typical. lol

For me it depends, in general I prefer to go with a group of 2-5, however if I plan on going somewhere and no-one else can come, I generally go anyways. Rooftops and construction sites I'm absolutely fine going alone, and sometimes prefer it, however when going into an abandonment alone I'm always on edge.

My main problem with groups, is when an exploring buddy brings a friend who turns out to be a liability, by constantly smashing things, being loud in general, and making it easier to get caught, and harder to get away with just a warning if caught.

Personally, I rarely explore by myself. I have a couple friends that have been to almost all the sites I have, and they usually come along. I also find that when exploring by myself I tend to get paranoid, and then I rush and leave earlier. With even 1 other person there, that mostly goes away.

More often than not I go alone, not necessarily because I prefer that but my UE buds are spread across the Metroplex and some work odd hours or have non-traditional days off.
In a way, that's easier, I only have to keep up with myself. More often than not I outlast my buds anyway. They're dropping like flys and I'm ready to move on to the next destination.
I imagine this going alone will last until I have an "issue". I've run into relatively few people so far and all have been quite nice. If I'm going somewhere extra sketchy, I wait until someone else is available. I consider anywhere they've found dead bodies or anywhere that's known gang territory as off limits alone.

I prefer going alone as I can cover more ground quickly and know what I'm after. On the other hand I have a select few I love going with and do so every chance I get because they know what they're doing and are a blast to hang out with...

min 2, max 4.

2 for the purpose of safety, 4 for purpose of agenda/goal of urbex spots.

I solo extensively, locally, but travel ... I also have someone with me or vis versa.

I like to go by myself for then I don't have to be concerned about others I am with. But alone I have no one to look out for me. The key is to make sure you go w/ or w/o, let nothing slow you down.
