It looks like The Last of Us was set here. It looks amazing. The peeling paint everywhere adds a really eerie, decrepit feeling (but in the good way if that makes sense). It is literally awe-some.

Your HDR retains the warm sun while making the bio degrading interiors visible. Like a terrarium.

Speaking of HDR and eyes,
I found this strangely familiar...

I personally like the look of HDR when it is used with restraint. That being said I think you did a very nice job with it here.

Nice pictures. I need to check this place out. I can't count how many times I've driven past without getting out of the car. Shameful!

As a recreational scuba diver, it's tempting for me to suggest diving into the water-filled magazines, but I've never been a big fan of night diving, and so diving into a dark confined space (probably) filled with rusty metal stalactites isn't high on my priority list. I'll let somebody else go first.

Sweet! What sort of missiles did they use to store here? Also you might want to tone down the HDR a little imho.

Ajax and Hercules surface-to-air missiles. Perhaps amazingly, a majority of these were actually small nukes, the idea being that you could take down a whole formation with a 1kt nuke. And that level of certainty was desirable, since you had to assume you were dealing with a formation of nuke-carrying bombers.

But then ICBMs came out and changed the whole game.

Hard to know whether this particular site was host to nukes or conventional high-explosive warheads. That information is somewhere, of course.

I vote we rent a pump for like $40 for a day and drain the things out during the summer... I have wanted to see what's down there since I went with TomUE the first time. It was snowing hard at one point and the interiors were very creepy with the flat light and fallen-in roofs.

It is possible for that to cause the building to collapse. The water builds up behind the walls of the basement. When you take out the water from the basement, the pressure of the water behind the walls can push the walls inwards and cause them to collapse. Just something to be aware of.

This is an interesting mechanism. But, it doesn't apply to this case. The flooded area is an underground bunker. There's no structure on top of it.

There are buildings at the site with partially collapsed roofs. The ones we looked at were built on slabs. Rot, and perhaps the sheer weight of all the moss, have done their work.

A little voice in the back of my mind says "Radiation could have been sleeting thru you all the time you were in there. You wouldn't feel it, any more than you feel a dentist's X-ray."

A different little voice says "Don't worry, the government would never let that happen. They would carefully remove any radiation hazard. Or they would fence it off and put one of those yellow propeller signs on it," shrugging unconvincingly.

Well, first off, this article states that the site was upgraded to Hercules (probably nuclear) missiles, and was decommissioned in 1974. That said, any lingering radiation on the site would not be from U-235, but from isotopes created in the structures and surrounding environment as a result of radiation from the warheads. These things things tend to have relatively short half-lives, too. Considering that one can now pay to take a tour of the Chernobyl area, I'm disinclined to worry at all about this site.

But would I be surprised if the radiation was slightly above background levels? I guess not. It would be fun to rent an appropriate detector and take it there.

People periodically get a dose of extra radiation, abandoned silos, ammo depots, flying on an airplane. I wouldnt worry about it at all. The two things I generally worry more about consist of needles and asbestos.
